MOT failed
« on: 16 March 2012, 10:48:02 »

Took the mig in for her annual test today and she failed, but heres the rub it failed on a part i had correctly diagnosed as being faulty.

I bought the car as spares or repair a few months back and have spent this time getting her ready for the mot, new air meter sorted the eml and new cam sensor sorted the poor starting, replaced all the brake pads, new handbrake shoes and cable, full service new rocker cover gasket wheel alignment and on tuesday of this week i correctly diagnosed a worn out steering idler, part was ordered and fitted and after 100 miles took her in for her mot and it failed on the bloody steering idler massive amounts of play on the idler, rather cheap aftermarket parts although at £29.50 and £6.00 postage it's not so cheap.

Have emailed the company i bought it from and asked for a full refund so now i need a new idler this time genuine vauxhall, lesson learned i suppose. Appart from this no advisorys. Now have 14 days to get the work done and a free partial retest.

When I did the idler on my MFL I used an aftermarket part and thankfully at that time had no issues. Vx will be expensive I think  :-X

Must have been poor quality, as i have stated from fitting the new part to taking the car for an MOT i have litteraly covered 100 miles, not unless there is something on the suspension side that is causing the steering idler to fail, but surely not this quick.

Got to say the lemforder stuff is good......with my drive and the roads around here it lasts twice as long as other aftermarket stuff.

Sorry to hear you've had so much chew with it, but hopefully it will go straight through with the Lemforder :y

Just an update,
Lemforder idler fitted at work yesterday, and took her for the retest this morning, passed with flying colours.

This is the third mig i have owned, with my previous 2 being 2.5s, and i must say the 2.2 has been a joy to work on, plenty of space under the bonnet parts easily accesible and in plentifull supply, is it therefore any wonder that those of us who own omega's just love them to bits.

Heres to another year of happy motoring.

Yep, the pattern idlers are very poor and often dont even fit correctly, the Lemforders though are fine  :y
