Wheels/Tryes problems
« on: 16 March 2012, 17:01:50 »

Hi guys

My front tyres keeps going down , both of the fronts,
i have took it to the tyre shop and they said there were no punctures,  it could be that the wheels need sorting he said. (not helpfull at all)

when i went to the garage to pump the tryes up after driving i could he a slight noise from the front wheel/tyres.
I deflated the tyres to low and the noise went. Then re pumped back up and the noise was back..  (No noise 17 psi, Noise 30/37 psi)

Does any one know what it could be? is it the alloys wheels?

get some water and a little soap in a sprayer, then spray the edge of the rims (where the rubber meets the alloy) on both the inside and outside of the tyre.

Look closely for it bubbling, this is what WIM did for me when I kept loosing pressure, one wheel would not hold its pressure over night! 30 down to 10!

Its quite possible the internal parts of the wheels are corroded & the tyre is not seated correctly.

Either find a more helpful place (unlikey!) or do the above, see if you can spot where its not sealing.  :)

Get them resealed mate - tyre off, clean up sealing area on alloys, sealant and refit.

Had the same on my back ones - local tyre place did just that - £20 for cash - ok since.

I have heard of Alloys becoming porous. Not sure if related to age.

I had the same problem with one of my wheels. When I took it off the car, it had at some time hit a kerb very hard and had a large buckle in the wheel.
I took it to a alloy wheel refurbishers who had a 5/10 ton circular press. They used this to 'reshape' the wheel back to normal. I believe they applied heat at the same time. I have not had any problems since.

PS  The previous solutions mentioned are probably the right ones, I thought I would add my experiences :)

I had the same and a tyre shop did the same as dbug had done.  They removed the tyre and cleaned around the rim with a wire brush and wet n dry, then refitted the tyre. Job done!  :y
