some love em, others not so.

Missus needed some company 12 months ago, so we acquired a lovely little black diamond who is doing her job but..

the "i want in" "i want out" routine and "i want feeding now" i don't care what time it is malarky can drive me to distraction.

I would fit a cat door, but in this house its near on impossible.

any tips/experiences?

We fitted a cat flap(Staywell) in the wall and then a child proof gate so cat can always get in during bad weather but has no further access unless we are around..

Always feed in one place and remember cats look down on you, dogs look up at you and pigs look you in the eye. Have you thought about a pig? maybe a micro pig if your house is small.

cat flaps will be ok.. and if you cant, teach them to use sand in the box..
 
and if they resist some small punishment will help.. so they will learn which are suitable hours..

I wouldnt fit a cat flap , our 2 are pests ..were in out in out all day but easiest solution is i let the missuz open the door for them so she got fed up doing that we use to have a litter tray but most of it used to end up on the floor with the scratching over the poop ...my fault as i bought a tray too small  ended up kicking the cats out at night and no more poop in house tray and they sleep all day

some flaps have notches that you can enable disable entrance from both sides..

after my first child was born and eating food and biscuits off the floor as kids do i looked at the scenario of cat lays around allover the floor and cat brings in birds and mice and plays with them round the room so i made a little house outside and now the cat is a fulltime outside cat and never comes in although he still tries to come in all the time (he snook in once past the wife and shit in the laundry basket  ) but he is a lovely cat and very loyal

There's always a settling in period. Routine is key for ours.

Not sure why you can't have a cat flap, but if at all possible fit a magnetic one. Stops other cats coming in as well.

Don't let them dictate feeding times, they'll end up fatter than bag puss. Try different foods. One they will eat but don't like too much is better than one they really like but pester you for. Then use treats for good behaviour, medication, vet visits etc.
 We stick to biscuits rather than wet food. Better for thier teeth, and stops the sometimes horrendous smell of wet food through the house. Avoid iams though. It's full of sugar, they scoff it down and throw it back up almost immediately.

Our two are no trouble at all. Only grief we have is local un neutered cats getting fiesty. Male and female cats should always be neutered. If we get any more vet bills the un neutered cats owners will be getting the bill.

We wouldn't be without ours.

This time of year I would turf it out at night when you go to bed and let it back in in the morning, that way it will sleep most of the day
