My Car has a Virus and it isn't too well!
« on: 19 March 2012, 10:53:04 »

What do you reckon is the problem?  Vote for the number one favourite and I will let you know when the problem has been diagnosed.

My Omega is starting to run very badly.  It is particularly noticeable when I begin to accelerate.  Then it clears and then it comes back again.  No water loss, new plugs last July. FVSH from new.  It seems to be getting worse.  There is a bad egg smell coming from the exhaust.

From a complete amateur who hasn't a clue?  :-[

Sorry should have said it is a 1999 old shape Elite 3.0 V6 auto.

Have you tried doing a 'paper clip test'? http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90581.0

Code 19 would be crank shaft sensor  ;)

Smell is due to inefficient burn so could possibly be dispack/leads/plugs breaking down

Hmmm.  All very interesting and thank you.  Should have mentioned it had a new coil pack in 2008.

If I get a code error is it advanced enough to say whether a plug is down or does it just give a general area?

You car isn,t burining the fuel that is being injected into the bores hence the smell.

If dis pack is fairly new and you have had plugs changed, albeith at GM Dealer then my money is on one of the plug leads not providing adequate power. If you have heard any misfire or popping from the exhaust you might also have a slightly loose plug .

Id say a mixture of not enough air eg blockage or leak and the smell may be the cat

FVSH from new is the problem :-X ::)

More seriously, it's probably an ignition fault and I wouldn't be surprised if all of the plugs haven't actually been changed ::)

Do the paper clip test and come back to us :y :y

I'll need to check.  I abandoned the car at my parents who live a fair distance away so I won't be heading back for a week or so to check. ;)

I would hope not.  All the plugs should have been changed.  It was the big service and cost an arm and a leg.  All we be revealed soon and if not the AA will be towing me back!   :y

I see you're fairly local... If you need me to pop around and have a look for you I'm sure it can be arranged ;)

Also, don't forget the Essex Meet at the Ardleigh Crown on the 7th ;) There'll be quite a few people around who can look for you :y

Its traditional for VX dealers not to change the plug on number 6. ;)
