Re: My Car has a Virus and it isn't too well - UPDATE & TREATED!

Okay guys, the 4th Emergency Service sorted the problem.  Well, sort of!

The chappy found, "All three plug recesses were half filled with water."

He dried out the water and removed the spark plugs but they were fine, re-assembled and it's all spiffing.

BUT he couldn't work out where the water had come from.  The only thing he could find was a sponge under the windscreen which was sopping wet.  It was on the battery side of the engine.

He'd never seen the water problem before.  Any ideas wise and learned engineers?

I've taken mine of, had rain all night and most of today and it's all dry at the back of the engine!

Sorry do you mean the sponge?  Is it a bit of a problem from past experience?

Yeah, it's fitted to the underside of the scuttle... There is also the foam seal between the long section of the scuttle and the cabin air inlet box.
Sorry, just re-read your post... When you say "sponge" Do you mean a sponge or the sound deadening pad???

Good question.  I don't actually know.  I think we assumed it was a sponge! :o

Meant to ask, has anyone else had this problem?  Could the water be coming from elsewhere?

Leaking scuttle is a well known problem on Omegas Greg :(
I can't see water getting into the plug wells from any other source tbh :-\
Usual fix is to dry out the 'sponge' then run a bead of clear silicon under the scuttle joints and around the base of the wiper spindles where they come through the scuttle? Hth matey :y

A bad egg smell you say? when i was working at a garage a couple years back we had an 07' MK3 Mondeo 2.0 Zetec come in and he complained of a bad smelling exhaust it actually turned out to be the Cat and we changed the coil and leads as a matter of precaution so it might be worth considerering as it cured his problem long term aswell to save him getting a new cat for future MOTs :y, Expensive solution but it might be what it boils down to.

Thanks PhilRich.  I'm assuming the scuttle is the plastic grill thing with holes in it?

Thanks Sam but the bad egg smell went as soon as the car was running on 6 cylinders.

Yes Greg, the scuttle is the plastic cover that hides wiper motors, pollen filter etc and extends from the windscreen base into the engine bay. It is in two? pieces iirc, with the longest section on the drivers side. :y

I've noticed that the rubber surround that should be fixed to the scuttle has come adrift.  I just need a dry 5 minutes to re-attach it!  :-\
