Bike Battery
« on: 24 March 2012, 09:51:22 »

So I'm going need a new battery for the bike, as I can't have it jump started every time  ::)

Halfrauds lists the "YTX14-BS" for my GS, there appears to be 2 different types, with a fivers difference in price, although I can get it at trade which will reduce them to around £40  :D

They are:

BOSCH MOTORCYCLE BATTERY 12AS YTX14-BS @ £59

BOSCH MOTORCYCLE BATTERY 10AS YTX14-BS @ £55

Is it worth the extra 2Ah for £5?  :-\

Bike batteries rarely seem to last as long as the ones made for cars. I've been told that this has a lot to do with the vibration a bike battery has to endure. I imagine that your lumpy old flat twin can be quite vibey at times, Mr Tunnie. ::) ::) ::) ;)

I wish my bike battery was that 'cheap'. Mine cost me £70 a few years ago for my TDM & week off work to fit it! I'm sure they designed & built the bike around it!!  ???

Yes, its not exactly smooth, but I like the torque, just stay in 4th gear, pulls well from low rpm  :)

It's sat across the bike, (roughly under your nether regions  ::)) inside the frame and it, along with its case needs to exit backwards after the rear mudguard has been removed. Maybe I exagerated a bit  ::) ;D ;D but it's not the simple 5 mins that it is on some other bikes.  :y

Yes! I think you're right!  :y

A job best done using a paddock stand because Yamha chose not to fit a proper main stand.  ???

The CCA is more important.

I can't find the full spec for the 10Ah version, but I'd hazard a guess (based on experience & stats from similar batteries) that the 12Ah version is gonna give you an extra 15 - 20% boost on CCA over the 10Ah battery (CCA on the 12Ah battery is 200A).

Those tractors take a lot when winding over. Also if you like your eleccy toys the bigger battery is the wiser choice. Think you did the right thing. My Trumpy has a smallish battery and there has been cases where the battery being low has contributed to the sprag clutch breaking.
