ok somehow during an install of new drivers for wireless ariel which had to do about 4 times!!
on deleting the useless drivers or something, i must have deleted the bit that works my soundcard? i think,
now have no sounds when speakers switched on? damned annoying, but i got me new ariel up and running and its great not having the signal waft in and out as we are over a kilometer from the village

so question, its standard windows xp missing its sounds do i go to microsoft and try to reload the soundcard drivers or something?
bear in mind utterly useless with computers hence the cockup trying to load the ariel drivers cos it wouldnt work 4 or 5 times so i deleted it all everytime and did the whole thing again, somewhere i can only think i deleted the sounds?
any easy step by step help much appreciated!

Look in device manager mate and see if sound components have been picked up and have a yellow exclamation mark next to it/them.  If so go to driver install - right click item select properties - click driver tab, click install/update driver.  If Windows can't install drivers you need to get driver from sound card/chip manufactures site, then install it.

ok done that and there are no drivers according to the computer! how do i find the sound card name? its an acer laptop,

more importantly just seen your sig says you have a tr4a
hoping the reg is not gvc cos thats my aunties old one brg great motor!!

dont know but a restore would wipe out the new drivers for the ariel i have just installed which caused this problem in the first place!! so not risking it!! lol

hmm its an acer aspire 3630 now aorund 6 years old so must be due to die soon!
there is some faded lettering which says aspire 3634.......
more worrying is the bit i just found though
acer arcade multimedia suite, now i know that was wiped off few months ago could that cause the non function?

Hi mate - my TR4A reg starts RYH but was BRG when I first got it - part of the renovation I undertook was bodywork and a respray - I sprayed it red as that immediately increased the length of my willie by 1" 

As cem says post up exact model reference of your laptop then can get correct drivers from net.

Don't try a system restore mate - flakey at best of times
