Hi guys.

Was out before and could hear a whining sound in the cabin. Turned the stereo and fans off and pulled over. It was all silent until I started to pull away when I could hear a quite high pitched but faint whine. I came off the accelerator, the revs dropped and the whine went. Found an empty road and pulled away gently. The whine was there but quite faint so I pushed the accelerator a bit harder but not enough for a gear change. The whine got louder but went again as soon as I came off the accelerator. The pitch did NOT change though. Always sounded the same just loud or quiet depending on the engine load. After driving it home I could hear the whine all the time apart from when I wasn't on the accelerator. The pitch never changed once. Does this sound like a fluid or pump issue? With the whine only varying in volume and not pitch it doesn't seem wheel speed related like it would if it was the diff (I think).

last time i heard about this problem the front sprag clutch came out as shapnel

I have that noise,if I hold the gear stick (manual) it goes,I suspect the linkages

Guessing you have an auto?  If so, first check the fluid level.

If that does not remedy the matter then if you want to use the following, please take great care and find a VERY suitable piece of private roadway and check that it is safe to continue.

Get the car upto speed (30-ish so that the noise is apparent) then slip it into neutral with engine still running.  See if noise abates.  If it does then looks like a potential gearbox issue but not conclusive.

If not, whilst doing 30-ish, switch off the engine BUT ONLY BACK ONE CLICK ON THE KEY THEN IMMEDIATELY FORWARD AGAIN ONE CLICK TO BRING ON THE IGNITION LIGHTS AGAIN.  You are now coasting in neutral.  If you switch all the way off as you would so as to remove the key then you lock the steering and thats not clever if you are doing 30-ish on the public highway with other vehicles, pedestrians and hard jaggy things that you might crash into.

If the whine goes away it is engine related and worthy of further inspection.

If the whine is still present (and doing 30-ish in neutral) then its gearbox/transmission/wheel bearings.  No short fix solution but you are tying down the area of investigation.
