mmm .. LPG :)
« on: 30 March 2012, 13:03:26 »

Having filled with LPG at the new price of 76.09 p/litre, I also entered the spreadsheet with the local petrol price of 145.9 p/litre .. and was somewhat gobsmacked ...

The "savings per mile" figure has jumped to 14 p/mile ... from around 10 p/mile.

A check of the numbers shows that in the last 6 weeks LPG has risen from 73.92 to 76.09 .. a rise of 2.94 %

Petrol in the same period has gone from 134.9 to 145.9 .. a rise of 8.2 % !!!!!

makes me even more pleased I'm running LPG ... more savings and no queues !!!  :)  :)

It's a thought ....

Petrol at 145.9 p/litre * 4.54 = £6.62.386 / gall

At 76.09 p/litre, £6.62.386 buys 8.7053 litres LPG or 1.917 galls LPG.

Driving solo I average 21 mpg on LPG (I'm not known for hanging about ..... )

21 X 1.917 = 40.257

So I'm getting the equivalent of 40 mpg from a 3.2 litre luxobarge ... not many oilburners are doing that :)

With the 2.2, I could near 55mpg equivalent. Quite a cost difference to now getting 27mpg from the 3.2.

Luckily I don't do the miles anymore and only fill up about once a month

With that milage payback would be pretty slow, ???

All the more reason to convert sooner rather than later ;) ;)

On the topic of LPG... There are a few members waiting for me to supply details for the supplier. Please bear with me as I'm finding it hard to get the time to do much at the moment. I'll try to do it over the weekend now that I have managed to make contact with him :y Amazingly, the kit price may well be going down a little as he has managed to get a bigger discount from some of his suppliers which he will pass on to us :y

Such a shame you can only fit a dinky little tank in the back of the Estate (without raising the boot floor, which I don't want to do) :(

Do you really need the full height? I've got a 76L tank in mine (with a 3.5" raise in the floor) which gives the same range as you get from the tank in the saloons :y

To be fair, rarely.. but a 3.5" lift is a lot - occasionally I have things in the back that I struggle to lift up to the height of the tail as it is.. (like the cement mixer I need to take back tomorrow) The extra height might be the difference between getting it in and not, so to speak :(

Depends on cost of fitting, if you DIY for £700. Costs can be recouped in under 10,000 miles.

If you pay someone going rate around £2k, going to take you a couple of years.

Great news. BUT contrary to what you say, many modern oil burning luxobarges do 40mpg, and more. But, they are 10 or more years newer.

Interesting, particularly if the new kit / supplier makes it easier by using existing injectors?

Can't be done AFAIK ... additional gas nozzles are added beside the petrol ones ... gives the option of runing on either fuel .. there is great expertise within OOF on fitting the injectors ... and probably obtainable for the price of a few pints .. :)

There is a whole section in the maintainance guides on fitting LPG ..  this is just the bit about the nozzles ..
