I have a whine which gets louder and louder the faster i go, i think its the front wheel bearing as when i turn to the right the noise gets quieter.
would this be the wheel bearing or something else?
Good chance it is the wheel bearing.
Jack the car up, safely on to axle stands, grasp the wheel at 9/3 o'clock and see if you have any "rocking" play.
Once you decide it is the bearing I would advise GM only .. damned expensive but I went for ebay cheapies .. only lasted 2000 miles .

. Cost me a small fortune when one failed on holiday in France .. and that small fortune got worse when the French one failed shortly after. If I had put GM on first time I'd have had a stress free holiday and been quids in as well

Easily doable job .. just needs a 320Nm torque wrench to do up the hub nut. I hired one for 1/2 a day the first time .... 2nd time I did it up tightish, put the wheel on without the dust cover and wheel centre, then popped to a local garage and put a couple of quid in their tea fund .... 2 minutes later it was torqued up nicely ..

Drove home and did the dust cover/wheel centre ...
