What about things with diddy tanks that can't take £30s worth of petrol? (Bikes etc - I saw another thread elsewhere that suggested £50 which would even rule out small tanked kit cars like our own Westfield owner)

SWMBO's Smart won't take £50 worth of even 97Ron  ;)

never ceases to amaze me how stupid so many people are inasmuch that they simply "follow the crowd" without thinking for themselves. This whole fuel "crisis" thing would be laughable if it werent so annoying. I work for one of the major supermarkets. Quite aside from the fact that our fuel prices are considerably cheaper than the likes of BP/Shell/Total etc etc our tanker drivers are not part of the union involved and there is no problem re fuel shortages at the moment. We got low at times but never ran out-though of course for those garages that did this was due to their inability to re-supply quickly enough and not because the companies didnt have the fuel. Actually there is no fuel shortage full stop and any Union action would be over a week away in anycase. So what did we have over most of this week? Massive queues with half the people filling up normally and the other half squeezing in £5!! Basically people panicked and very quickly this led to all the local garages running out which in turn led to all these panick stricken folk to go to the supermarkets which in turn led to some of them running out. Oddly enough, having crammed as much fuel into their cars over Tues-Fri by Saturday trade was back to near normal. Could this be because all these people didnt actually use their cars more than normal and suddenly realised that they didnt on reflection need to spend ages in frustrating queues for fuel they didnt need? Or is it just me? ::)

It's not done my business any good... I was expecting to have a busy few days but that didn't happen ::) Then, of course, garages started running out of fuel so no misfuels to deal with.  ::) Then people didn't need to fill up like normal, so no work ::) Been a bad weekend without a single job :'(

Only good thing is that we have friends staying and I got to spend time with them :y

'We can bring the government down': Truckers vow to halt Britain's traffic in support of striking tanker drivers by blockading refineries and motorways

So .. expect more queues at the pumps tomorrow if this news hits more outlets?

It is the Daily Mail, of course. ;)

Then again, plenty of people read it and believe it. :o

Ok ok, here's one without the 12 year old pictures: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/truckers-pledge-to-join-fueltanker-drivers-and-enforce-petrol-blockade-7606795.html

And a brief mention in the Guardian: http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2012/apr/01/fuel-tanker-firms-union-talks

No idea if either of those can be considered a reputable news outlet either.. In fact, does such a thing exist?

The govt need your money! So what do they do? They scaremonger the population by using the media for their propoganda! Theres going to be a fuel shortage they say and like blind fools half the country panic buy, instantly boosting the govt coffers to the tune of £80,000,000 a day! If your stupid enough to believe their crap then I have no sympathy for you! Its our country, we voted for them, they should be working for us and not us for them! Where are the fuel protesters now that were paying £1.40 a litre? Isnt it time we spoke for ourselves before we become to poor to be able to do anything about it?

Pretty much what I was thinking. Fuel sales have been dropping as the price has been increasing, so yeah......frighten the nation into thinking there's going to be major fuel shortages and 'hey presto', fuel sales rocket and money starts pouring in to the government coffers again. No doubt when the chancellor Dick Turpin slaps another 3 pence on litre of fuel in the August budget, he'll happily point out that everyone had enough money to fill their cars up when they thought there was going to be fuel shortages! >:(

Lets be honest...I think common sense would hopefully come to the surface here.
I also think even small cars have tanks large enough to take over £30.......I think £50 is a bit too high. :y

I remember our local garage doing the £30 during the last strike....petrol always available after. He did it in sympathy with 'normal drivers'. I went in to fill my van and he said he was having cases of women going into top up, then going shopping in Beaconsfield and coming back and putting another £5 or even less in. He was really miffed and on the side of workers/sensible people, albeit his business was to sell petrol. He was quite jovial about it...top man :y

Still hardly anywhere in the town had fuel today. Had to use a local ESSO for Unleaded Only garage which had any unleaded, and Sainsbury's for diesel, as you can guess they were the only ones who had diesel  >:(. Beyond a poxy joke, there isn't even a strike yet! Governments profits have gone up hugely, people are paying the £1.50 a litre for fuel, and they're thinking great, it's pathetic. All my cars are low, apart from my trusty little Toyota Aygo, albeit I feel like a wally driving it, but the fuel economy is good  :y
