Central locking control unit - what am I looking for?!
« on: 03 April 2012, 10:19:49 »

Had the drivers kick panel off this morning looking for the CLCU. What I found was a black Megamos box that looks like the alarm? Is that the alarm and central locking unit? It had a part-number of 24 443 645 LT written on it.

Confused because I rang the Stealers to confirm the part number and with my chassis number they said it should either be 24 411 994 DB (£315!) or 112 867 LT (£385!). Am I looking at the right thing or should I have delved deeper?

Can anyone shed any light on my confusion before I start trawling through Fleabay etc.? Cheers.

Ask RobG he will give you the number and a picture and if you are lucky he will have one for you.

Stealers said the important bit was whether it was LT or DB.

Now, that's all and well but while I've been away my neighbour has found (and got) me one from the scrappy but it has the letters SW on it! Not sure if this is compatible or not. What the chuff are these letters for?!

Either way, I'll try fitting it tomorrow and see what happens.

Cheers,

On fitting replacement no difference whatsoever! So, either the replacement is knackered, that LT / SW / whatever is the coding and not compatible with my car or we're back to the mysterious white microswitch in the maintenance guides!

Found this website: http://opeloem.com/vauxhall/omega_1994_2003/electrical/body/anti_theft_warning_system_contd_.html

Interesting. Looks like the letters are some sort of identity. On my car the identitiy is LT - which is down twice! So, looking for a unit with those letters would be wrong. Has to be the full part-number!

If you PM me your registration number I'll have a look in EPC later and see if that sheds any light.

I would be very surprised if it's the ECU, though. Don't think we've ever seen one fail before.

Since all the motors are in parallel, I suspect that one of them may have shorted, causing the ECU output to current limit, so none of them move.

Either that or you have a wiring fault that's causing a similar issue.

One line of diagnosis might be to remove the ECU and make a connection to the motor lines (pin 7 and 8 on the ECU, although you might need pin 10 and 8 to bring the door motors out of deadlock).

Connect a 12V source here and you should be able to lock and unlock the doors (I'd include a headlamp bulb or other form of current limiting in series just in case you have a short, though).

Alternatively, disconnect each door in turn using the connector from the door pillar and see if it comes to life. (don't turn the ignition on or you'll upset the airbag ECU)

You might be right. When I got the fuel filler motor out it was absolutely jammed solid. I gripped the end and (somewhat viciously in the end) wiggled the piston until it suddenly gave and seemed to work fine. Unfortunately it appears to be a sealed unit and I don't have anything small enough to get in the plug and power it. Left the leads off for now so I'm sure it won't lock the filler cap again. Wouldn't be beyond the bounds of suspicion that another has seized, although none of the locks seems stiff (or any stiffer than the others.) Wonder if the filler-cap jammed and that fried the CLCU?

My unit is the 24443645 LT unit. I'll PM my reg though.

I'm on childcare duty tomorrow so nothing will get done then. I may have a look on Sunday though, weather permitting. After a full day of childcare it may be hang-over permitting too.  ;)

PS. No panic now I can fill up again. Now just a niggle to be sorted as and when!
