I drink almost every lunch time and have done for more or less my whole working life - 42 years.

But in early days it was one maybe two pints at lunch and for last 12 years has been 1 or 2 glasses of wine. I do not drink much in evenings - and do not do much heavy drinking now. When people suggest a session after a meal at 11 pm I leave 'em to it now. At 30 I would have been up for it.

Impact on those around you needs to take precedence of course.

That's interesting cos I used to drink @ lunch too but I got far too sleepy coming back to work. Do you not then fancy getting home and having a session? Not out on the town or anything like that but just chillaxing with a few cold Peroni's. mmmmmm

To be honest I get sleepy if I do not have a drink - I actually feel I have had a real break rather than sitting in front of a screen in the office eating lunch

That's a very good point and I know what you mean... you get out of the office and feel like it' proper time away! however i spose it dont help i really hate my job.... hence going back to school to become a spanner twirler ;)

I don't drink from one month to the next. Sometimes I have a beer with me dinner but that's it. However if it's a special occasion I still do let my hair down but I can't drink beer no more than 2 beers no more. I always feel bloated and horrible so I go straight on to the shorts now and then it's not uncommon for me to drink ten.  :o :o :o Yep when my mate "Jack" comes a calling it does get messy

Pub culture, a distant memory. ;D

I rarely drink now...with a meal, the odd tin at home.

Gives me a head ache these days tbh.

Sat down with swmbo about a month ago and had a chat about me drinking.
Basicly she said I had a drink problem  >:(
I can honestly say that I couldn't remember a day when I didn't have at least 3 pints on everyday of the week  :-[

Lifes shit at the moment and tbh, I get worked up at the slightest little thing so my idea was to bang a swift 2 or 3 cans down my neck just before bedtime in the hope that I can get off to sleep pretty quick because if I don't, I get shit going through my head and I will be still walking round the house at daybreak  :'( :'(

I've been in the pub once in the last 3 weeks and until last night, I had not touched a alcoholic drink in the house.
The first 3 or 4 nights without beer was a nightmare. Restless wasn't the word but as soon as I got the alcohol out of my system, I have been getting some great nights sleep and feeling a hell of alot better about life.

Scary how it creeps up on you  :-[ ;)

I can't drink like I used to, doubt any of us 'oldies' can.  The days of rolling in at 4 or 5am, then arrive at work for 8am are long gone.  Recovery takes longer as you get older.

Don't drink much now. I think male adults are allowed 40+ units a week? Doubt I do that in a month now  :-[.  A drink when out for a meal, maybe occasionally one with a meal at home, and occasionally a pub night with friends.

its not just the oldies, Im 25 and I dont bother either.  Its not that Im tight with money, but id rather spend £100 on my omega than £100 on a night out.  I get to enjoy the omega more and see where the £100 has gone, rather than p*****g it up a wall.  Its not that I dont drink, but im happier with a cuppa than anything else haha. Now wheres my pipe and slippers......

In reading this it's really made me think about what I used to drink in the past .........  :-[ Upto getting married @ 23 it was an average of 5/6 pints a night, most nights - except when I was working nights obviously.

I still enjoy a few beers very much - but now stop @ 3. It's the wine that gets me each time though - can easily sink a bottle and a half with no effort whatsoever, but if I have more than 2 glasses (I get 3 glasses from a bottle  ;D) then I KNOW I will have a stinking head the next day. The beer for some reason tells me to stop @ 3 and I regret it almost immediately.

As for drinking @ lunchtime, that's a big no/no - unless I want to have a nap that is.

There have been a few times when I've stopped for periods of time, being skint and working in the middle east for example, and I have to say that it doesn't worry me one jot.
