Firstly as TiggerHayes said getting into work with a hangover is pointless as we drive artics not desks. That said alot of other comments ring true as well. Pubs are'nt proper drinkers like they were in the 70's & 80's & are being outpriced. Cans are cheaper but i only enjoy the first one or two then they taste soapy & i feel bloated but not p*sed. A bottle of voddy over the weekend is the way for me & not really into lunchtime drinking.
Another factor to consider is ones background/upbringing. Strange as it may seem i come from wealthy stock & such classes have supper at 8 or 9pm...always with drinks during & after as oppose to the working class way..(which is me, not being a snob here, i'm the black sheep) of tea & a cuppa @ 5 or 6pm. I still eat late though which is why i'm a big boy!!!! :D

Never have been a heavy drinker, I'll have about 10 pints per year to be honest  ;D

A friend of mine who is about 30, works as a teacher in Vietnam.  He gets health insurance as part of his employment package and he goes for comprehensive checkup every year.  A couple of years ago at the checkup, the ultrasound on his internals showed he had a 'fatty liver', which is the beginnings of cirrhoses and was told to stop drinking and went on a special diet to let his liver recover.

Here's the thing! I never considered my mate to be a heavy drinker! He enjoyed a couple of nights out every week and certainly enjoyed his weekends!! but not much more or less than anyone else...  :-\  I guess that some peoples livers are more tolerent than others.  :-\

One is for sure, my mate was lucky that his life choices led him to have those annual checkups, otherwise he could have drunk himself into an early grave!!  :o

Or more people are walking around with seriously damaged livers than know about it ;) Lets face it, have you ever tried to get a GP to do a 'full' medical in this country? Unless someone is paying for it, that is..

My ex - who is from Paraguay - couldn't understand why we don't have regular medicals including full blood-work in this country, when it's fairly routine in hers. And lets face it, we're talking about a fairly impoverished South American country, here..

Don't tend to drink much during the week although sometimes have a can or two when I get home from work. Do tend to get through a fair amont of beer at the weekends though, although nowhere near as much as when I was younger! ::) As said by a few others in this thread, the hangovers are far worse as the years go by and take a lot longer to get rid of. :'(
As for Lakes and Newent OOF meets.........now that's a different story!! ::) ;D

I'm with your ex on that one!! If everyone had to go and have say a bi-annual check up, which would include full blood, urine and stool test, ultra-sound of the internals, chest x-ray, eye test, and maybe even the rubber glove treatment!! Then maybe many diseases would be caught earlier and would be easier to treat.  Saving the NHS lots of money in the long run!!  :-\ :y

I drink far far too much, trouble is I enjoy several pints of premium lager every day with a large scotch at bed time.

I get an annual check up for blood pressure etc which includes urine and loads of blood test which include Liver Function, the Dr reads me the riot act, so I go tee total for a couple of months have a re check and i'm fine. I am trying to have three days off the sauce a week to prevent liver problems trouble is I slip back into old ways.. MUST TRY HARDER ;)

I guess I'm lucky inasmuch as I can't drink for 4 weeks at a time when working, so with travel there and back that makes it 32 days without a drop (never drink on the flights) and when I'm back home, I don't 'work' as such so I can please myself what and when I drink. Saying that, I probably drink about the equivalent of 2 to 3 pints of lager when we go out for a meal, once or twice a week, and every now and then if there is a party or BBQ going some red wine and maybe about 3 or 4 shorts, the latter probably being once a trip home and no more.
Drinking I can still do, no problem. It's the recovery time that kills me, 1 night.....2 days! Much different from my serving days in Guz!

Oh and we have both discovered the delights of a night time hot choccy with Baily's   mmmmmmm :y

Aaah, yes but try it with ordinary cocoa, no sugar. Not that horrible drinking chocolate concoction that is far too sweet with no sugar anyway.

oh dear,if im honest i drink far too much.ive had an inflamed liver, scars from drunken accidents, lost license and lost many months of my life from not remembering them but i have calmed down and am married with four kids but i still like a few beers plus a bottle of wine and a few scotches.ive got down to a beer with my tea and a couple of scotches one of them i like to take to bed with me but i can easily go on a binge and for some reason i like being pissed and have spent alot of my life in that way...sad really but lately ive stopped smoking and taken to cycling to work and my outlook on life has changed so hopefully i can kick the drinking a bit too

I balance drinking with the normal shite that accompanies life thus far...

I'm currently fighting a stage 4 cancer, therefore nothing else really matters to me at this moment in time.

I'm due a post op scan on the 19th of this month, and I'll have a far better knowledge of the official diagnosis from that date on.

Until then.....I (unsurprisingly) don't give a toss for anything in life other than to remain breathing at this moment in time.
