Just trying to I.D. the buggers at the moment tbh.

It is becoming increasingly clear, to me at least , that we are not getting consistent products, within the realms of tc pads certainly, and now on the face of it oe seem to come across the counter differant too.

Asking for oe or tc doesn't seem to mean we get either one set of pads or the other. By that I mean...
As TB now has a set of pads in a tc disc/pad set from my dealer fitted to his car, he is now experiencing what i have been complaining about for years. Dead feel at the pedal.
Maybe tc pads on thier own are different tc pads in the disc pad set.
 Oe...I've asked for these at my dealer, and got whats pictured second pic down from the top I've asked again at the same dealer and been given what SMD has pictured top of the page. Odd!

Thought occurs, I've never fitted tc pads purchased on thier own not in a disc pad set.

I've got a set of genuine pads sat at home which I brought a couple of years ago. I got them for my Gsi Carltonwhich is the same as the Omegas. When I get back tomorrow I'll hook em out and have a look.Just wondering could there now be two suppliers to VX now and they are slightly different squeal shims.

I imagine GM outsource the disk+pads and pads only kits to different manufacturers so they may well not be the same. Might even be regional differences in suppliers perhaps?

Deadish pedal and squealing was the problem I had with my last set of TC pads (bought in a disk+pad set). They died prematurely, too. Inner pad on one side appeared to have lost a chunk of friction material and then worn very fast.

Sadly, I cleared out the garage yesterday and the bin men came today, otherwise I'd post a picture of the markings on them.

Replaced them with a set of motor factor bog standard £12 Ferodo pads and they've been perfect since.

Right. Visited my dealer, who had both sets of oe in stock.

SMD, yours appear to be old stock. As pic below, you'll have to take my word for it but your pads are in the box pictured below.
Note the old style packaging with no hologram on the sticker, the old scrubbed out part number, with new part number written on the side. My dealer says they've had these on stock for years.



The oe pads with four shims are the new part that dupercedes the old ones pictured.

According to my dealer anyway. And the packaging would appear to support that theory. Hth

I should add, the friction material on both types of oe would appear the be the same, visually speaking.

EPC implies old number for Carlton/Senny, new for Omega.  As they are compatible, new part can be retro fitted back to older cars.

Old PN not listed at all as a Omega-B part.

He said he was not sure why Chris' has four shim plates fitted to the set and he thinks its not something thats still available. He also said thinks the four shim pads might have been new old stock and might have been for late Carlton OE pads which have now changed number to the Omega ones.

Chris, did you buy the pads from the dealers? And did you take the above picture or did your dealer send you it?

EPC suggests chrisgixers findings to be right (purely by part number, EPC only shows rough pics).

Not to say that PNs have remained the same, but the manufacturer has changed them slightly...

I made a mistake in my post above and cant seem to be able to edit. I meant to say Andy said he thinks the 4 shim set is old stock and the ones I have are the new stock.

Anyway, this is a picture of the box mine pads arrived in.

The printed number is what is in the box. This is an old part number. The handwritten number is the part number of the part that superceded the earlier part.  Based on EPC, I'd be thinking that GM are shipping out old stock?

SMD, yes mate, sounds very similar to the conversation I had with Andy earlier today. It would seem he may have the old and new parts the wrong way round, in that your packaging with old no. on MUST be old (or at least older) stock.

To make things clearer, I purchased these today in the pic below, as Andy felt they would be hard to come by, I grabbed them while I could, at £80 odd
Note the label, more modern with hologram and no other part numbers on.


I visited the dealer personally, as I want oe as well. I inspected personally and took the pics myself there and then. (they think I'm mental by now I'm sure ) I purchased the ones in the pic above. The ones with Shims on each. But I paid more than you did iirc going by previous pm's?

Tbh, I'd probably fit the ones you have and see how they go. Tc pads squeak, not oe. And of the do squeak/squeal, send the buggers back.

Burnthem garage Slough. Strangely there is never anyone behind the counter when I walk in.

I guess Andy is the person to ask but if I was do as to suggest surely I'd get told to bugger off as they would be used and not resaleable?
