Vauxhall vectraB mould groing in boot
« on: 10 April 2012, 13:23:43 »

is there any air ventilation in boot area as just been looking over a vectra and the boot is coverd in mould taken out the floor cover and was growing on the under side and on spare tyre, cannot find any leaks letting water in so thinking that there is no ventilation. think its starting on the back seats aswell.

Common problem on Vectra B.  Had same on 2 previous cars.  It's a leak from the back of the roof.  There two short channels either side at the back of the roof that are sealed.  The sealer cracks with age letting water leak down the inside of the rear pillars and gathers on the boot floor.  Easy fix, just remove plastic strips, and reseal.

is that the strip were the roof mounts are or the rear window tops are? as both have plastic strips?

At the back of the roof bar mounting strips there is a plastic strip about 8" long on both sides.  Carefully prise these strips of with a flat blade screwdriver or the like and underneath you'll find mastic type sealer.  This is the sealer that usually hardens and cracks with age, just reseal and stick plastic strips to the new sealer.  I've actually fixed a small leak at these points by pouring super glue into the sealer cracks and sticking the plastic strips back on with the same glue.
