Hmm! Will my love of 80's Jags get the better of me???
« on: 10 April 2012, 16:37:33 »

Just seen this on the bay of E and I'm very tempted to say the least, the only thing stopping me at the mo is SWMBO. Never hear the last of it if I did. Decisions decisions  :-\ :-\ :-\

Had many 4.2's in the past but never had a v12. I know what I'd be buying into i.e. BL = Tinworm. But I do like em.

I really, really like those classic shapes, more so than the slightly later ones.

Bet that goes for a lot more than its current price.

I loved my 84 4.2, not owned a v12 but borrowed one for couple weeks and loved it! the prices have been rising steadily.
5 years ago i got mine, with the biggest service history ever (his company paid for any and every work for the 10 years he owned it) so no expense spared , very solid and only 90k. we done a straight swap for my VDP1500..... which was a little tatty. i sold it some time later for £800. then last year i spotted it on ebay where it sold for £2400 !!  :o

The XJ's are STILL the Daddy of all Jags no matter what anyone says. I had a 3.4 N reg Daimler sovereign many years ago. At the same time a mate had an M reg 5.3 & it was silky smooth. No need to tell you you will be looking at 12/15mpg & have you seen under the bonnet? 4 big SU's & strut braces everywhere. Not the easiest of beasts to work on, they're cheap to buy because they're money pits, have your purchase price again in reserve or don't buy.

That said they drive like nothing else & ooze class, taste & decadence, i adore them & would have another anytime.

Yes they chew fuel but at least you can wear the cost in style on the forecourt by pulling up in between the pumps & filling both tanks, going in to pay & saying pumps 11 & 5!!!!! Myself i'd stick with a nice six potter but that is pretty!!!! Guy. 8) :y

Have the rear wheels got a touch of positive camber?

Nice looking money pit.( I had one for five years and did 50k miles in it.)

Lovely motor - go for it mate - I'd seriously consider it if I hadn't just bought my Jag XJ and her Omega Estate ;)

Don't worry about SWMBO - when I was married (back in the 80s) I came home one day with a '72 Ferrari Dino - now that caused aggro  ???  Don't know why though - got even more aggro when I started racing it  :)

Go for it mate
