New driveway
« on: 10 April 2012, 19:48:02 »

Anyone in the business of doing driveways?

SWMBO wants gravel, I want tarmac!

I've got a driveway approx 20' x 30' with road chippings down as a base atm.

Waiting on a local firm to pop round a give me quote, but does anyone on here do it or know roughly what might be a good price guide?

TIA :y

Given half the chance Jon, I would  ::)

I concreted our last drive, sloped nicely to the drains etc, but she "hates" concrete >:( >:( >:( >:(

I want to deck our patio, but no, it'll be too slippery ::)

Time to change SWMBO me thinks ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

choice 1 would be block pave but that area would cost a bit if done properly. Gravel is a PITA with stone all over place. Tarmac fine if you get a good base whacked down.

Depends on your budget and how it fits in with the plot/property.

I paid about £2500 to have a pikey mate of my pikeytastic neighbours (he really was, too .. if you've seen Snatch he was properly "do ye like dags?" ;D) block pave a slightly smaller (probably 6m x 7m) area last year.

He was begging for work, mind, the quote started out at £4k ;)

That included removing all the soil/gravel, compacting, laying a sub base, compacting, sand, compacting and then blocks, including a drain in front of the garage (sloping drive) and a soakaway - kept an eye on the two blokes doing it (who were eastern european and spoke nil English  ::)) and they appeared to do a fairly proper job.

Well, it's been almost a year and it's still level.. ;D
