How did someone die cycling into a van? thats crazy! ive been riding bmx's for year and had a lot of bad crashes but never died

its very easy to die in any accident, my uncle died while he was pushing a motor bike along and he fell hitting his head.

In the story it says he was taken to the neurological unit which means he must of received a head injury (prob wasnt wearing a helmet).

Yes that what I mean, a cyclist hitting a stationary vehicle would have to be travelling pretty quick to die, or be very very unlucky.

I wonder if the van was reversing at very high speed ?

the skull is a fragile thing, like an egg.....

Hit it one way and it will withstand an impact, hit another way it will crack......

No mention of a helmet in the report, these days i don't cycle unless i have one on.....

This incident is the same as one that occured to the driver of the delivery van at my company last year, he was in traffic in the city of london on moorgate, and the cyclist  head down peddling like crap ran stright into the back of his very large blue transit. Fortunatly he was fine, albeit a bit dazed, and the company sued him for the damage to the rear doors.[ ] Cyclists do not help themselves sometimes and the standard i see just around the city is frightning.

My brother had a lucky escape a few years ago but he scared the cr@p out of me.

He was cycling to work as he always did on his triathlon bike.  We go training together and regularly maintain a steady 25mph on the flat.  He was head down in the tri bar gathering pace and wasnt watching where he was going and piled straight into the front of a parked car.

The impact he made with his head was about a foot or more deep into the windscreen.  Luckily he was wearing a helmet, we both do following the cycling death of our other brother many many years ago.

He bent his brand new alloy forks and deformed a strong wheel.  I got a call just after the incident and was told he had lost the back end going around a corner and needed picking up.  Well when I got there I saw 2 police cares and my bro on a stretcher going into an ambulance.  Needless to say I nearly joined him with heart failure!

He got away from being sued because the car was parked illegally but he compacted his spine and cut his face.  Needless to say if he didnt wear a helmet I would be an only child by now.

I lost another friend saw years ago who was hit by a car doing 10mph.  Because of the way he fell and the fact he wasnt wearing a helmet he suffered fatal head injuries.  

Just goes to show, no one is bullet-proof

Couple of years back when I was working for Ocado I had a cyclist run into the back of my van just outside St. James park in London, he made one hell of a mess of himself. Lost a couple of teeth from hitting the shutter and then knocked himself out when he hit the ground. I'd say it is probably pretty easy to kill yourself doing that. 3 1/2 tonne of metal V's human head, I know which one my money would be on.
