To penalize owners of larger older cars is wrong >:( When you consider the amount of co2 emitted from the exaust of an older car with the amount produced in making a brand new Micra it just doesn't add up.
I wonder about the intelligence of so called educated M.P's when they obviously have no common sense >:(

they have put the countrys finances very deeply into the red at the start of a serious economic downturn, they are desperate to raise revenue and the more desperate they become the more ludicrous the revenue raising schemes will be.there WILL be worse to come. >:(

The increase does not worry me unduely....its an extra 20 quid a month thats all which lets be honest, in the grand scheme of things is bugger all!

[soapboxmode=on]
I do think its very wrong to tax something that was built 7 years ago, they should be targeting new designs not something that already exists. But, hence why its a greed tax and not an environmental tax.

In fact, from what I can see, none of these taxes are environmental ones as none of the revenue from them is used to reduce pollution, its all just ploughed into immigrants, dossers, MP's second homes and the monstrously in-efficient NHS.[soapboxmode=off]

Not forgetting the bail out of northern rock and the sh"t the goverment are in as the money has ran out nearly for the 2012 games. >:( >:(

IIRC the 2.2's emissions are in the same category as well. A 1.6 Vauxhall Astra 8valve goes up to £300 not exactly a chelsea tractor!!!
We are shafted more and more every day with direct and indirect taxation. An extra 3p a can is really going to deter binge drinkers isn't it? As long as they can take the easy option and raise money to fund the massive wasteful overspends this unelected prime minister will hide behind any excuse. And while I am on the soap box why is a jock allowed to be pm when english mp's are not allowed a vote north of the border? Bring on the May elections and lets hope this shower is given a hiding at the ballot box.Remember the assault on your motoring budget when you vote.

I think that goes without saying :y

Never thought I'd be happy to be driving a '98 2.5

How about if you all convert your cars to run on LPG , do you still have to pay same amount of road tax ? And you wouldn't have to pay £5 >:( a gallon either!!!

Personally speaking I feel the opposite way. I didn't vote for them last time, but now they've got us onto the brink of a recession and created this imminent and, frankly now unavoidable, mess, I'm almost inclined to give them my vote so that they are forced into being the party responsible for dealing with it.

If they are allowed off the hook now, they will be able to sit back and attack the new party in power as if it were their fault. They'll be able to look back over the last period that they have held power and refer to is as a period of prosperity that is largely unmarred by what is inevitably to come now and is as a result of their overspending and mis-management.

Make them suffer with the rest of us now.

re the LPG conversion idea.  Even with my low mileage of about 7k a year I reckon it will pay for itself in a couple of years.  if there is sufficient interest from this forum I wonder if a bulk deal could be done with a supplier of the kit etc for members here.

It mainly attacks the average bloke/woman who goes to work and fancies a nice roomy car, (often to carry kids, dogs etc) for weekend use. The bulk of these people don't do massive mileages and opt for a 5,6,7 year old miggy or Range Rover etc. because they can't afford a newer one. I don't think many footballers or other vastly overpayed people will ditch their new gas guzzlers because of the hike in road tax!

I'm ok i dont pay road tax am exempt    ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Can I ask why or is this just a wind up, or disability. Are diabled tax free cars completly exempt from this ?

Yup....[/quote]

That is completly bl00dy unfair, and I don't swear.
Oh and before I get accused of being some kind of fashist, my Grandfather was disabled from the age of 23, so I grew up with a disabled relative living with us, so I do no the problems.
why ????

Because the disability scheme is the most abused benfit in this country.
About a year ago did a job in a road with no parking apart from a disabled bay, man goes to work every day driving his car from his personal disabled bay, he was not disabled, his 10 year old son was picked up each day and dropped off each day by taxi.
The chap who bought my last car was born with one hand missing, told me has never worked a day in his life and laughed.
OK two bad cases there are many legitamate cases. but why should a disabled person be able to drive a car bought by the taxpayer in many cases (motability), and not be even concerned about the emissions his car produces. And more importantly his decision to buy a car is just "what make and model" The rest of us now have to consider costs way beyond our control. Petrol cost if I don't like it I buy a small engine or do less miles, a choice. Insurance, many companies to choose from with varying levels of cover, a choice. Road Fund Licence, for low mileage people, like me I cannot justify £400+ to this rip off government, no choice but small car.

why ????

I fail to see why it's unfair.

When road taxes are getting punitive in the hope that it influences us able bodied people to use the public transport system why should those who have no option but use a car (and often a large one converted for wheelchair access, etc.) be included in that tax regime?

Kevin
very nicely put Kevin .Would Manthatch ban the blue badge scheme because i (and many folk like me) can park on double yellow lines without receiving fine,

Can't get wheel clamped either. ;D ;D ;D
Seriously though only one free tax disc, you have to pay for any second or third etc car. :( :( :(
Anyone can have free tax, just run a classic car. :D over 25 years old.

I have a feeling that Jo Public does not realise yet, these tax hikes, and yes I agree, it will hit the ordinary man in the street with a family who need a big car.  :(
Lates against the motorist is that yu can now be issued with a parking fine from cctv evidence, no need for a warden.  :( :( :( :(Not sure if they can see a blue badge with the camera.
