NEW Zealand Omega (missfires and runs like sh@t!)
« on: 13 April 2012, 04:23:03 »

HI Guys!
Its 2pm here so im guessing most of you will be in bed but hopefully I will get a reply soon!

I have a 2000 2.5 Omega (Opel) 90km that are a bit of a rarity here, we have mainly V8 Commodores, (the Omegas big brother) The tart has started to be doing what would seem to be typical issues with these things, Because theres only a few of them here, parts are damn near possible to buy!.

Recently after a good high speed run it blew all the cam covers due to a blocked up Cat, it also melted the rubber hose for the air injection and of course the EML Light came on. so after ripping the cats out and putting in straight pipes, blocking the air injection and removing the fuse, doing the covers (hand made gaskets) blocking the EGR and cleaning the breathers etc she was running like a dream! a bit noiser but fuel economy and power greatly improved.

Well this morning a couple of weeks later woke up, started her up and she was running like crap, missfires no power etc. managed to limp home.(few beers last night didnt quite make it home...)  sounds and felt like it was dropping a cylinder.

Pulled the codes off with my pet paperclip, 133 and 59, both front and rear ram low voltage. Ok checked on this site, pulled it apart again found the rear ram plug not connected, re connected checked all the vacum lines for vacum and leaks then again with carb cleaner, checked the plugs , no oil in the holes put all back together runs heaps better but still missing a bit and the codes are still there!?  will the codes go as soon as the problem is fixed or does it take the 20 re-starts?

also,
-The car was running fine until left over night then immediatly began running like crap?
-cant see how the rams not working (code) would make it missfire so bad

Any brilliant ideas!!?

Cheers :y

Hey one other thing it has always done is after sitting running for about 20 seconds like at the traffic lights its idle "flares" for a sec IE increases for a split sec then back down to normal idle!?
WTF?

Idle, problem with icv or air leak. Clean icv is a good starting point, then make sure it's seated and sealed fully.

Miss fire, how old are the plugs? Any rain over night? The scuttle can leak on to the engine and cylinder head/dis PAC etc.

yes im kinda thinkinh DIS pak myself bugger it all, as i said we dont have parts for these things not even the generic spark plugs everything has to be imported! what is the easiest way of checking these or is it a case of just replace and pray?
How does water leaking onto them even stuff them though, surley they are or should be waterproof and in no way should short out with a bit of water!??  If this thing keeps playing up like it has been the past month I know where theres a supercharged 3.8 V6 thats going to get shoved into it very shortly!

Also give the plug leads a good check as it is easy to damage them when doing the cam covers/breathers, etc.

I know it wouldn't be cheap to send a coil pack to you but you don't have to remove the current one to try a replacement because there's enough slack in the wiring to be able to connect up the "tester" on a temporary basis.

Usually, start with plugs. If oil or water found in plug wells or damage to plug leads, replace those too. If still missing(and the correct leads are on the correct dis connectors) then remove dis PAC and inspect for damage as the pic.

Does the 3.8 share the same dis PAC?

I hear that! We like to call them Stealers! Unfortunately, some parts are better to buy from the "Stealers" as the copy parts aren't upto the job.... :/
