Lighter nights
« on: 02 April 2008, 15:45:08 »

Isn't it great - it's staying light well past 7:30pm now the clocks have changed - allows for a little miggy tinkering after work :)

Oh yes, just forgot, I don't have a miggy  :-[

Never mind... I need to bodge my washer bottle and broken pump back onto the Landie before I drive down to Kevin's on Friday night ::)

Oh, and then the wheel bearing, inner wing, lumpy engine, and coolant leak.... good old British cars ;D

Is it still running lumpy?

At idle... hell yes. It's horrible. Better when cold but never ideal.

There are a couple of loose pipes in the engine bay that may not be helping, but I don't have a clue about the Vacc setup on these..they may even just be breathers

If I bite the bullet and shove £100 worth of petrol in it, do you fancy taking a look with me one weekend? ;D

Might be able to have a quick look at it at the weekend if it fits up my road let alone in the garage, and Marie's stuff goes OK.

It would be good if we could.. although I must admit I'd resigned myself to the idea that the whole weekend will be taken up with her LPG conversion...

.. and plugging of autobox leaks. :(

Can't promise a lot but I know my way around the engine, or at least have in the past, so may spot if something is amiss.

I'm pretty sure we're not going to have time to drop that gearbox as well as gas convert it...

A few simple tests to do....

1) Stick a strobe light on it and see if the timing is jumping around.

2) Do a vac test

3) Check the distributor does not have axial or vertical play in the centre spindle.

Vac system on the V8 is basic to say the least, there is normaly a vac feed to the fuel pressure regulator (cant see that causing an issue at idle and not all of them have it) and obviously the brake servo, there might also be vac advance/retard on the dizzy.

There is minimal play in the dizzy....

there is a vacc pipe to the dizzy which provides a vaccum at higher revs but not at idle...

Kev, do you have a strobe.. I broke the bulb in mine :(

Wondered why my ears were burning on the way home from work. ;D ;D ;D

Firstly the oil leak is not a bad as jase made out. i am happy just to keep toppin her up until i get the oppertunity to drop the gearbox. i know its not ideal and costing me a small fortune in ATF.  (the last time i topped her up she had done 400 miles and only took 1ltr 1 1/2 ltrs tops. so its not that important at the  mo)

James .......PLEASE dont call me her. :( :(
oh and im sure we can find the time to look at you motor at some point. :) although cant promise fixing it! ;D ;D ;)

I have got a timing light, yes, and a vac gauge. Might be a bit dusty. Not seen a dizzy for a while, especially one with a vac connection :o.

You call the shots, Marie, so whatever you see as the highest priority we'll tackle first be that LPG or gearbox.  :y
