My good car; slight ''ticking'' from engine bay
« on: 15 April 2012, 19:57:17 »

as above, i was standing outside the car passenger side. put my ear to the bonnet and heard this ticking. engine was on.

popped the hood... think it may be coming from around the aux belt area. possible bearing from one of the wheel thingys? :) if so do i locate the dodgy one, remove and replace? if so i will follow the cam belt video up to the point where that aux belt comes off... or can i do it without taking bagpipes out?

cheers

If you think its from aux belt area, pop aux belt off (you can do it with bagpipes on), and run engine (very short period only as no water pump without aux belt).  If noise gone spin all pulleys by hand feeling for play and/or roughness - if you feel any thats your culprit.

If noise not gone look elsewhere.

My bets on noisy lifter  ;)

Cheers mate, s'what i wanted to know  :y

if it is a noisy lifter will it cause an actual problem besides the tapping noise? i can cope with the low-mild tapping but obviously need to get it sorted if it can cause any mechanical probs ;)
