Holden Commodore HSV
« on: 16 April 2012, 04:01:57 »

Hi,
Just out of interest do you guys still get "our" Commodore? i it gets re-badged as a Vauxhall?
As you probably know there are a few similarities in design and the origional commodore was a re badged Calton.
Would love to see Jeremy driving the new 7ltr 500hp version being released here!

Yeah we get a few. Some re badged Vauxhall. Vxr8, Vxr Monaro.
Some badged Holden hsv, like older vt models etc.

I find the newer gts version of our vxr8 I bit ott personally.
Vxr8 being my personal favourite. :) not sure what it's called down there...?

i have to say they are a bit boring myself, a few years ago i exported a few SS commodores to the uk (via Ireland) but in saying that the latest versions are preety well put together these days! the local site here is www.hsv.co.nz and if your interested in looking at parts IE V8's and supercharged v6's try www.trademe.co.nz its our version of ebay!

I have two - but they're pretty hard to come by.

My second car is a 2000MY Commodore Clubsport R8, imported by an independent importer on GM's behalf when new and sold in the UK as Holden GTS-UK. Proper Clubby spec with big APs, etc.

My first car is a 2000MY VT2 Commodore SS. Imported by the same importer when new without GM knowing. Standard spec, complete with weedy brakes.

From 2004, GM imported Monaros and sold them as Vauxhall themselves

are you in a posaition to get spares ? particularly used parts?

the v6 is a 3.8 IIRC similar bhp to the omega and SOHC, my dad had a camaro through vauxhall at the same time as they were selling the commodores in some vauxhall dealers

Mate if you need spares, let me know. I buy at "Trade" pricing so its a bit cheaper. Like you guys I try not to buy at from the dealers as they just bend you over on pricing!  if your looking for second hand stuff have a look on www.trademe.co.nz its our version of ebay.
Whats happening quite a bit here now is theres a few people buying dmaged cars at auction, cutting them up and shipping them back to your side of the planet. Mainly engines g/boxs etc To ship a 20'container back to the UK is about 2000pound so if you get 6 cars in there it works out quite cheap!

The blown 3.8's we have here is basicly the old Buic V6 from the US with a bit of a tickle up, from memory they were around 200kw after being factory de-tuned for all the emissions crap. They took over from the Nissan 3.0 six that was used in the commodore for a while when Australasia took all the lead out of the fuel and there was no longer anything in the GM/Holden shelves that would last without burning out valves. With a decent exaust and new gearing for the blower etc they easily got close to 300kw, heaps of fun!
