right, update....
i've got the starter motor off, and got a replacement...
tried both on another battery, tried on another battery in another car...
the sprocket clicks up but doesnt turn at all on both :/
anybody know best place to get cheap but decent starter motors, just thinking is it worth pissing about with second hand ones when i can get a brand new one
cheapest i've seen so far is eurocarparts which is £140ish with the discount of the old starter motor - yes i know they arnt cheap lol!
thanks
alex
p.s i've got not 1 oppsed starter motor but 2! i must be lucky
even tried hitting the solenoid with a hammer to make sure it wasnt sticking and was still the same
Alex , I am a bit confused with your explanation as highlighted above .
But my suggestions are :
Ask the question on here of how to properly test a starter motor that is off of the car (not sure on this myself)
Do you know the second starter you have is a good one in the first place?
Although I said earlier that omega starters are usually "bullet proof" . . smoke coming from the starter area on turn over is not looking good IMO
Have you tried the second starter fitted to the car ? Guess maybe you want to make sure it is a good one first though
The battery would be the least likely culprit IMO as its a good make & only 3 months old. But still a possibility though.
As for a brand new starter . . I think I would go for a known good used one from one of the breakers on here first off.
just some suggestions until someone more experienced in this comes along, hope it may help
