.. and then there were the home made explosives... Pop round to see my mate whose Dad ran a garden centre for some potassium nitrate... Never got a particularly loud bang but managed to vapourise a length of copper pipe in record time.

And people moan about the price of toys, etc. The things I got most of my enjoyment out of were practically free (and probably not legal, but never mind).

I still have mine!

Dad brought it just before i was first born hopin i was a boy!

its still in the box and now worth a fortune.

a hornby train with track. ( ont ask me which one i dont know) but dad wont part with it even though its mine. i want it for my son cos hes train mad!

(the other one i which i and kept but i gave to charity was my natwest pigs. cos they as a set now are worth a fortune too.)

The older ones are better as toys, the newer models are a bit too fragile. That said there are some toy ranges again from both Hornby and Bachmann (less detailed, cheaper), but my boys only play under supervision and do have an expensivish loco they bought shared.

If you get him a train se he may continue the great hobby when he is an adult.

At our last house (garden was a big bigger, but was flatter) I built a garden line, about a 20m to 30m run, and I ran stuff collectors would rather leave wrapped up and not taken out of the box.

Yeh, i remember TCR Total Control Racing (or in your case)
My mate had one of these & i loved it  :y

Yeah! I had a TCR and also a matchbox powertrack, I think that is what it was called. (The one with the headlights so you could race in the dark) :y

What was the 'matchboc'?? one called. It had a slotted spring going round and you got little stick things to put on any matchbox car.
