St. George's Day
« on: 23 April 2012, 07:49:30 »

Not that yould know given the dearth of information provided by the national broadcaster. :(

However - These fine images and this sublime music will always show to me the real substance of this land – a land and heritage to be celebrated, a land worth fighting for and above all, a land and way of life worth preserving.

We'll be having a pint or three later on while proudly displaying the English flag, and if the neighbours are offended by that then that's just tough luck.

Got up this morning and wished Mrs Varche a Happy St Georges day. Unsurprisingly I couldn't see any bunting or evidence of any street parties. However all is not lost as tomorrow is St Marcos day here and all the locals have the day off and head out into the countryside and have huge parties for their extended families (us included). Lots to eat and drink before the men retire to play cards/dominoes under the olive trees whilst consuming cuba libras ( whiskey and coke) while the women eat cakes and talk about babies.

Then on May1st we have the Romeria. Everyone heads to the east of town and entire extended families pick a tree and have a BBQ etc and socialise with everyone else. Local horsemen turn up to show off their prowess after imbibing large amounts of amber nectar.

The Spanish certainly know how to have a good(family orientated) time. :y

Going back to the world cup during 1998

A builder I know had a white flat bed transit.
He had a red cross in plasic stuck on the bonnet so it looked like a flag of st george and also had a flag about 3ft / 2ft flying from the framework behind the cab.

He was pulled by the coppers who made him take the flag down because it was a distraction to other drivers.
He asked the copper if his missus was walking down the street in a shorts and a low cut top with her puppys proudly on show, would that be distraction to drivers ?
Neadless to say the flag was removed before he was nicked  >:( >:(

2 days later, he was pulled again and told to remove the red cross because it may insite racial volence  >:( >:(

The taxi driver and just about any other tinker had a clip on flag flying from there cars.
The council tried to have them baned  >:( >:(

Only in England  >:( >:(

Popped into our wetherspoon pub in town yesterday teatime for a couple of hours with swmbo.

Not one flag or any reference to St Georges day anywhere.

Why has the English nation let the pc brigade let this happen ?
Personaly, i'm sick and rather tired of feeling like i've got to sit in a corner, keep my mouth shut and keep my head down because i'm English  >:( >:(
The Welsh celebrate there day.
The Scots and the Irish do the same but when it comes down to the English, it seems to me that we are scared to be just that .............. ENGLISH  >:( >:(

Pretty much every nation on this planet celebrates its nations day.
It is one of the things that gives that nation a sence of identity.
Us the English are that shit scared of upsetting the rest of the word that we have become a
total no-mark nation on the world stage.

This countrys forfathers must be turning in there graves at what we have let happen  >:( >:(

End of rant

I didnt see or hear any mention at all of St.Georges day in the media yesterday. Its absolutely bizarre.
I also find it bizarre that the English now seem to celebrate St, Patricks day more than the Irish do. :-\

Nothing bizarre about it Albs, for some pathetic reason the nations pride has been slowly kicked out of us by those in power and the political correct brigade over the last 30 years or so  :(

Short of the Falklands (which was a British thing), all we have done in that time is roll over and let the world walk all over us.

Very few people even describe themselfs as English anymore  :'( :'(
