Petrol price nostalgia.....
« on: 25 April 2012, 12:45:17 »

I came across this photo the other day and it's circa 1987 I think.....

The thing is.... were we as outraged by petrol prices then as we are today?  ???

I don't think I cared as I passed my driving test in 1987, so was just happy to be on the road in my rusty Renault 5!!!  :y :y :y

I use quite a lot of unleaded to power two stroke tools (chainsaws, pruners and the like) at this time of year. It is always a shock when I go to the station with my trusty Paddy Hopkirk (remember him?)gallon tin and fumble in my pocket for about 7 euros fifty before having to pay by card!

Makes you wonder how much it will be in twenty years time! ;D ;D ;D. Someone will be posting on a forum and saying when they were young it was only £1.50 a litre!

filling up my first car in 1969 - Austin A60 was around £4 I think - definitely petrol was 6/8d per gallon in old money so 3 gallons to a pound. First month I had car I spent £30 on petrol - remeber it cos I got a b******ing

I used to work for Paddy Hopkirk back in 1990's in the factory making those petrol cans!!

The was my very first car, a BMW 1602.

I only kept for it a few months (as it was woefully underpowered)  before junking it for for this 2002 Tii (which was not) :-* :-*

Fuel was an eye-watering 38 new pence per gallon. ;D ;D

I also use a lot of two stroke etc so filled my can on tuesday morning.....£8.73!!! i had managed to squeeze in 6.24 litres but had to check the pump number when the girl asked for that much.
