Is there a quick temporary work-around for a leaking heater matrix? I tried turing the heater off but doesn't help. If I unplug the vac pipe on the HBV will that help? Ideally would have liked to unclip the hoses into the matrix and connect them together but can't do this as they have the quick connect connectors

I haven't seen for sure, but driver's side front and rear is under half inch of water with pink antifreeze in it. I replaced the HBV and most of the collant pipes over the last 8 months as a preventative measure as the pipes started going one by one due to the number of miles (around 250k).

pull the connectors off the heater matrix & join them together with a bit of 15mm copper tube worked for me

Yes. There is a quick fix. I ran one of my Omegas for a few months last summer with the heater matrix bypassed. What you need is a length of 15mm copper tube(household water tubing). Then you realease the quick release clips off the matrix down the left side of the engine as you look from front and insert the length of tubing in both pipes. From memory it was about 4 inches long.

Echo was others have said.

My matrix gave up in January...great as we had snow on the ground ..anyway cut a 100mm peice of 15mm copper pipe,disconnected both heater pipes from bulk head joints and then push each end of the 15mm pipe to create a "bridge".

Worked fine for me and held up until I could replace the matrix and restore heat.

Years ago I remember you could buy an emergency black plastic tube which did the exact same thing.

Just make sure you cut the ends of the copper pipe nice and square and remove any swarf as dont want that flowing around the coolant system
