Hi Guys,

Over last couple days my wiper linkage has gained alot of play and everytime it goes down, it bounces of the wing so tonight ive took the Scuttle off(Fun ) and then discovered that the motor bolt was loose so i though"result tighten it up jobs a gooden" er...... No lol no different what so ever so on futrther inspection with wipers going i can see the linkage has loooooooads of play in the plastic fixings on the rods and also on the rotating arms so is it worth replacing the push rods or the hole linkage w/t motor.

Hmmm, not seen an Omega with loads of play due to worn plastics. Sure the bolts holding linkage arm are tight?

Both of mine do this, the problem seems to be the passenger wiper arm, if you adjust it to stop it hitting the bonnet / wing it then hits the drivers wiper, if you then adjust the drivers wiper, that wiper then hits the A pillar.

I have just about managed to tweak the V6's setup but it means the passenger wiper parks a little high on the windscreen, but I cannot get the DTi's sorted, it's fine until it's a decent downpour (you can't emulate it with a hose....) and the wipers are on fast... problem is that unless you manually choose position II the Elites choose for themselves having rain sensitive wipers.

One of those jobs I need to do but not prepared to strip it all down until I have a new wiper assembly in my hands.

The connecting rods with nylon ball joints are available from dealers new. With such leverage on a comparatively long reach/radious, you'll never get all the play out, but replacing the various  joints should improve your problem.

When removing the mechanism, be extremely carefully not to scratch your drivers wing, cover with a rag. And yes, it does come out, just got to ease it over the brake servo.


....or replace the whole lot with known good from a breaker....?

That's the problem, how do you know it's good? unless you can test them at high speed when there is a downpour, driving along, you will never know if your replacing bad with worse. 

I know other vehicles suffer with sloppy linkages and you can buy the nylon components and arms separately.

I have seen one on an Astra that had play at the crank end of the spindle (ie the opposite end to where the wiper arm bolts to the spindle) A small amount of play here translates to a big amount at the end of the wiper. I replaced it with a second hand one, but I think a tack weld would have done the job.
