Morning all

2003 2.2dti with a hiccup
Plod's along ok around town but when it go's on a motorway or similer the emmission's light come's on drop's the power slightly then go's out then come's on then go's out......you get the picture!!
Seem's to be when power is needed.....uphill etc.
No code's stored using a Maxidiag eobd reader.
Checked all vac pipe's, oil  level and electrical plug's and all seem ok.
From past experience with a Renault Trafic van i'm thinking EGR and/or MAF...
And the opinion of the collective is???

my renault traffic had same prob & was fked egr valve, is the 2.2dti running veg??

No to veg......will be bio only but not yet...need to sort the running first.

u should be able to blank the egr anyway see if it cures it, any play in turbo shaft? could be passing oil mist into exhaust when tootling around turbo doesnt work that hard but when you boot it or hold revs up it comes into play poss burning a little oil?? you could check by droping turbo pipes off each side to check shaft on airfilter side, look for oil towards intercooler side in pipework? drop out the sensor in exhaust check its not sooted up or damp coz of oil??
but im sure other members may tell you more to look for but thats what i would do 1st?
try a bottle of fuel cleaner threw it 1 bottle to 20 ltrs they say treats 60ltrs but be stronger with 20 & give it a good blast!! (if it lets you)

oh if your going to run a later style car on bio you will poss need to fit a veg inline heater filter to thin the oil down & also change your engine oil for a veg based mineral oil so they will work together, (countrywide stock it) if not the excess veg in bores will contaminate normal engine oil & start clogging the oilways in engine & replace your main fuel filter every 2000miles or sooner!!

No more smoke than i would expect from a diesel.
No blue smoke on start up or while revving at standstill so doubt the turbo seals but will check anyway.
Won't need inline heater filter for the bio as there is no veg involved once the bio is produced....viscosity is similer to dino diesel unless the tenp is low and then a splash of unleaded is added to the mix.
I unplugged the EGR on my trafic...no codes sent from it and runs much better!!

Not tried anything yet, was thinking of either taking it off and cleaning it or replacing it, but had a quick look under the bonnet and can't even see it! - I'll have to ask Fergy where it is.  Idealy I'd like to use a blanking kit and get rid of it as that seems to be the long term cure but I'm struggling to determine if it's possible as there seems to be some doubt on this engine - typical!  Chris.

Sorry chaps, you can't blank off the EGR on a DTi (Omega variant), it doesn't give much trouble anyway. Issues are usually to do with one of the many vac connections, the MAF or the boost pressure sensor.

What's really required is the codes read by a Tech II or Opelscanner as the generic readers are very limited (hence why you have a code but the scanner can't read it).

Scanner said no codes stored.....nothing about not able to read codes...same thing??
I have full access to an engineering firm so a blanking plate or similer could be made if needed.
If it needs to be scanned again anyone local offering???

Thanks VXL V6, I'll have a word with the mechanic who has the code scanner and see if he's using the said kit.  Is the boost pressure sensor is on the turbo somewhere? but what's the MAF? Also, read somewhere on a forum that faults on the vac pipes/connections is best found with a smoke test? - anyone know what this is and how/who has to do it?  I'm a bit lost as to what my problem is as it only happened twice within 20 mins of each other on the motorway with the caravan on - and I can't get it to repeat - even by blasting up the motorway!  Chris.

Finally got the spanner's out!!
Look's like someone has been backprobing the MAF plug and damaged it in the proccess
took the MAF off and cleaned it with IPA in a plastic bag...IPA went brown quite quick from the oily coating.
Checked everything else again!
Will be trying it tommorrow so will see if it's any better.
Anyone know if the MAF wiring loom is available as a spare part???
