Yo dudes. Hope you're all enjoying your bank holiday weekend

As I mentioned before I'm now on to the timing belt and TB is very kindly lending me the locking kit... cheers mate

However, tomorrow I'll be doing the strip down ready to tackle this job. Looking forward to it.
But I do have a couple of Q's:
1. Obviously as I don't have the locking kit yet am I able to tell if the timing is out using the marks on the case? I've heard this is used as a rough guide so I'm thinking if I rotate the crank and get the cam shaft cogs up to the marks on the casing then I'll be able to see if the crank marking is at 6 o'clock. Presumably if it's not spot on then I can use a mirror to see how many teeth it's out by by looking at the crank notch and counting back? As said I know it's a rough guide but would like to see if possible.
2. When I get the lock kit..... is it necesary to get the cams in place before locking or is it only necesary to get the crank at TDC and move the idlers just to get the locks in? basically what i mean is as long as the crank is at TDC and the locks fit in does it matter if they're off before i lock it and remove the belt cos obviously timing will come when i put the new belt on (or in my case remove belt and then refit)
cheers
