Dead Elite 3.2 Estate
« on: 09 May 2012, 11:43:27 »

Hi All

I've got a problem with my Elite 3.2, basically its dead. The key fob wont open the doors (both sets of key's ) the key wont operate the lock either drivers door or boot lid.

I've been into the local main dealers service dept for and their advice was to break the cheapest window as it was most likely a door lock server sticking but they didn't seem convinced.

I used the car yesterday and whislt I know it has an intermittent engine light due to what I believe to be an ignition pack breaking down as it only seems to run on 5 cylinders till you turn of the ignition and restart the car. Apart from that it runs perfectly and has always started on the button previously.

So if any of you enlightened guru's have any idea's i'd be extremely grateful

Hi, are the keys original? i.e. not had new key different than the door locks to operate the ignition?

If they are original then you should be able to use the key to manually unlock the front door. If it hasn't been used for a while the door lock may be quite stiff so use a bit of penetrating fluid down the lock hole, that should free it up. Then using the key gently try to unlock it, it may seem like the key will break but if you use a little pressure at a time it should go. I just gently giggle it from left to right first to get a little movement in it, but it should go as long as you have the correct key.

Hi

Both sets of keys came with the car and appear to be original, I will give the WD40 route a go.

Cheers

Maybe something as simple as a flat battery.
As Jason has said the drivers door lock may be stiff but you should be able to turn the key and unlock.
It will feel like it's going to break and when it does unlock you won't see the lock button come up.
Alternatively you could try jumpleads or a power pack connected to the big terminal on the starter and ground then try your fob to open the doors.

It's a long shot, but replace a battery in one of the keys and see if that makes any difference?   If you go into a stealer, they may change it for you, they have done for me in the past :y

Also, when using the remote can you here any clicking etc or nothing at all? ???

Does the key start to turn in the drivers door lock?

It will turn, it can be mega, mega stiff and you feel as if you are going to break the key, but it will turn!

Where abouts in the country are you?

Dear All

Thank you for your helpful responses. The beast is now fully operational after trying the WD40 route I managed to open the tailgate, wedge my bulk between the seats to open the bonnet and out the corner of my eye I noticed I'd left the bloody lights on  >:(.

You'd think if you were going to go to the trouble of replacing the prop shaft (manufacturers sticker still on it) - you'd at least paint it so it didn't rust! ;D
