I had a thought today. ...no its worse than that, this particular thought took over 5 years to finalise.

My first omega, a 2.5v6 99 cdx had a pas issue. Random stiff stearing. Took it to a dealers on recommendation of DK motors to tech 2 the pas ecu for servo tronic codes.
Tech2 diagnostic please Mr service person.

Waited an hour, and asked for a progress report. "Oh he's under it now. It needs wishbones and has an oil leak". "Yes I know, what about the diagnostic on pas?" "Oh he hasn't done that yet" ..."... Why is he even under the car? The diagnostic socket is ... Never mind."

Asked to see the oil leak, took me into the work shop, and I asked where's the oil coming from, and is that a water leak? "could be head gasket" he said. Oh yeah, now this PAS issue...? It's the pump! No, it's servo tronic have you plugged tech 2 in? No. It's the pump. Look can you please plug tech 2 in? I need to diagnose the relay.

Harumpf he goes to a lap top with a long lead, plugs in, yes it's servo tronic relay. Ok great where is it? "Engine bay fuse box". No it's behind the glove box, but where exactly? What does it look like? Oh never mind.

Anyway, point is, I didn't know what tech 2 looked like at the time, but I was fairly sure it wasn't lap top based. Today's thought was, and I'm certain, it was op com.

Even the bloody dealers don't use tech2.

IIRC there is some sort of diagnostic cable that TIS can drive, so could have been official. Doesn't mean is was, though.  Who knows what they were fobbing you off with? ;)

How long ago? Guessing too long ago to be the new diagnostics kit for Insignia etc.

Thinking aloud, given the reliability of Tech2, maybe it was broken, and they were using more generic kit?

Or most likely, the 'tard couldn't use it  :-X
