Who is mad enough to pay these sort of prices?
« on: 15 May 2012, 00:00:40 »

For a 9 - 10 year old car?

with a book value of £750. Madness if you ask me. He must have some magic dust that he scatters on his cars.

In all honesty, while the book price may be £750, providing the 37k miles is genuine, there is no rust, good history, tyres etc, my personal view is that the car is worth £1800 ro £2200

There's no way on earth it's worth £4.5 grand.

What book you looking at then D?

My 03 3.2 Elite is worth 3k according to glasses guide. Which is what insurers use to value all cars at market value. Now this one has even less miles than mine. Mr Budden is renowned for asking top money for his cars though, but they do usually present in top nic.

...although you'd think he'd pump the tyre up prior to. ;D

If its up to his usuall standard, 3.0- 3.5k might be more realistic. But having said that, that colour can easily knock 2k off the price.  :-X

The vexed question on the gulf between the perceived value of any item and its true worth will always be raised in such circumstances.

This car seems to be well presented, well specified and ready to go and, as such, I would be more than happy to negotiate with the seller for more than the figures mentioned here if I were interested in it.

Any object will have an intrinsic value which may or may not match the ‘market’ value - but its true worth can only be measured by the individual owning it or those hoping to own it should it be for sale.

If, and only if, it was the exact car you were looking for then you'd pay the money. His cars are always in perfect condition and, as Entwood will confirm, he is good to his word ;)

I do think it's strong money, especially as it hasn't got a CID, but he always sells them ;) My car was originally up for £4600 when I bought it last year. I didn't pay that but the price didn't put me off because it was exactly what I'd been searching for ;) It took over 2 years to find the correct colour combination and spec so I would have paid him the full asking price if the car had been perfect. As it was it needed the damage done by Vauxhall putting right and a full service (including tyres) so I knocked him down to a price I was happier with :y

As I have said before, my car is always available for sale for the right money... But it would have to be Roger Pudden prices for me to even consider ;)

I always look at what its worth to me......people say why spend on an old car, but I would rather spend smaller amounts  at periods than a lot in one lump sum for a newer one ( which will probably require repair bills anyway)...if that makes sense :y
She may be old...but I love her ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I wouldn't have called mine perfect, sadly. I thought it was at the time, but the rose tinted specs were clearly on when I viewed it & test drove it :( (Rusty tailgate that I didn't notice, GPS doesn't work, laquer peeling around the aerial base on the roof and, pointed out by 2woody last weekend, a badly filled dent in the roof just forward of said peeling laquer)

Never went back to him to have anything looked at though, because none of them were 'mechanical' failures covered by the warranty.. but I shouldn't have paid £4k for a car with issues like that, really.

If you'd gone back to him he might have fixed them, or contributed towards. I know Entwood went back to him because someone had changed the shocks to standard instead of S/L. they were changed to S/L (as per the advert) at no charge :y

That's pretty good service - at the time I just chalked him up as "used car salesman" and moved on; eventually I'll sort the problems (if I find a good tailgate in the right colour).. eventually - I do move at positively glacial speeds ;D

I bought Miggy from Roger Buddens
Back in Nov 07 for 8,500
She had 60,000 on the clock
Now has done 109,000
49,000 miles of ownership much enjoyed :y :y
For me she just does the biz in every respect except colour
If that motor was an Estate in that colour I for one would be very very interested
I have no complaints about Roger Buddens service
He simply sells quality at the right price
I am at present considering giveing Miggy a spray job in Rubens Red as it's mine and swmbo's favourite
Or alternatively and more practically a shade of bright high gloss white as it's a solid colour
A solid colour is much easier to respray and overlay on to a single damaged panel as opposed to metalic/pearlescent coatings

Is it my eyeballs or a trick of the light, but that front tyre looks flat.
It's just me being picky I suppose.
