cut the parking lamp wire?
« on: 22 May 2012, 12:44:03 »

Is there a simple way to disconnect the parking lamp system?
I am forever leaving my indicators on and then switching the car off and leaving on the parking lights. I remember I had this with my old cavalier and cut a (black??) wire at the indicator switch to disable the system.
After studying the Haynes manual wiring diagram I am none the wiser. Any help would be much appreciated  by myself and the passers-by who keep knocking on my door to tell me I have left my lights on!!

The "lights on" warning buzzer sounds to remind you, though?

I often end up leaving them on, as I'm generally indicating when I pull into my drive and continue to turn into my normal parking spot. Buzzer beeps and I turn them off.

I find them very useful when there's no alternative to parking on the street somewhere. A valuable extra insurance against someone ploughing into the back of it, IMHO.

Ahh. I see. Bit dangerous having it without the buzzer. ::) I'm sure the warning buzzer functionality could be added. Preferable to disabling the feature completely, IMHO.

Probably, but in over 15 yrs of having no buzzer on my cars it's never really been a problem. Even if you did leave them on by mistake, how long would it take two 5 watt lamps to flatten a 70-ish A/hr battery?  ;) ;) ;) ;) (no working it out either  ;D ;D ;))

Thanks for that.
My T - reg doesn't buzz with the parking light left on. Buzzes when lights are left on or key is left in ignition.
I think cutting the wire is the best option. I'm not worried about the battery getting flat i just find it annoying!! (it doesn't take much, I'm trying to learn to relax but the stress is winding me up).
