After two of my friends have had their houses broken into over the past year I have decided to buy a home alarm system.
I want one with an Auto Dialler so I can talk to the burglars whilst they are in my house.
I would also want this coupled with a CCTV system (If not I could buy the CCTV separate) that allows me to have an app on my phone so I can see the burglars also.

I do not need the auto-police alert feature.

Does anyone have any suggestions of makes or models I should be looking for?

I've got over 20 years in the alarm / cctv game (self employed)

Running around at the moment but i'll pm yeh later and we will have a chat about whats being happening and what you can do about it

In my case it made an insignificant difference to the premium, but basically meant a load more clauses in the policy to the effect that I was uninsured as soon as I step out of the place without setting the alarm. Against that, I would be expected to pay £90 a year to have the spiders vacuumed out of the PIRs.

So now I maintain the alarm myself and insure on the basis that it doesn't exist.

We have an ADT System thats linked to a control centre plus panick buttons for Police, fire and ambulance.

Only problem we have in ten years is one of the door sensors went down but other than that not a problem at all

spiders hoovered out of a PIR lol...if it is put in properly there wont be anyway a spider/insect can get into a PIR as you should be blocking your cable entrances...

Agreed, but they hadn't when they originally installed it (for the previous owner), and that was the only selling point they could come up with for their maintenance agreement which, needless to say, was not taken up.

ADT business systems are pretty good but you pay threw the nose for it and they shaft you big time when it comes down to maintenence agreements and call outs.
There domestic systems are shite and I wouldn't touch them with a shitty stick 

As for your contents insurance, the system must be supplied / fitted and maintained at least every 12 months by a NACOS approved company.
You will be lucky to get a 10% discount on a good day with any insurance company 

The problem with NACOS is, one you have your sheriffs badge you can fit pretty much any crap with a domestic system as long as you give a ticket out 

Put it this way, I personaly know one bloke who works for a SCAMP who has a dead spider which he keeps in a matchbox.  He produces it when they can't tie down a fault and claims he found it in a sensor so the company can bill the customer with a nice fat call out charge

Different name, same sh*t 

Me and a good mate in the trade looked into joining up to there happy club about 15 years ago.
My mate did.  I didn't bother 
As soon as word got around that he had enrolled, all the NACOSS firms round here went out of there way to undercut him on every job even if they made a loss 
Within 6 months, the amount of sh*t and lies that was doing the rounds about him was ridiculous 
It got to the point that he had to let the registration go and just carry on by normal advertiseing and word of mouth only
