College Interview. Great Result...
« on: 23 May 2012, 18:17:34 »

Well, as above I had applied for the ''Level 2''. After speaking to the head of department and going through my academical achievements, work ethic and...wait for it.... maturity level  :D he's advised I go straight for the top course.

I can do a vocational qualification (more practical) or an academic qualification (more theory) and I'm choosing to be a ''Technician'' which is the latter course. He made it very clear that the Technician role is very different in the industry from ''mechanic'' in that the Technicians diagnose and mechanics do the work. And as I want to learn WHY stuff happens the Technician role is for me.

The core subjects include:

Fault diagnostics
• Electronics
• Vehicle systems
• Customer care
• Project

He gave me an example of an assignment and it was on gear ratios, stripping down a transmission, etc etc. looks really good. cant wait!  :y

You have definately chosen the correct option.

It will beinteresting to hear how you get on as having had contact with a major providor of training for the motor industry I suspect you may already be well ahead of the game on the theory side.

Remember, ask on here is you want to know the basics and also consult the FAQ section to.

As for gearbox stripdown, pretty easy to do and a great way of learning the in's and out's of syncros, bauk rings etc and if doing an auto a good way of understanding thier operation to.
