At risk of opening a door to a load of F1 bashing, what a farce this race is. IMO.
Safety completely compromised.
Fart in the wrong direction and there's carbon fibre all over the track causing a stoppage.
Zero opportunity to over take.
And more pictures of boats, views across the harbor, and general excess than I care to look at personally.

What IS this race for exactly ? What a joke.

Drivers seem to enjoy it though. A different disciplin to the usual maybe?

I've walked a lot of that track and its amazing how fast those guys can drive around a narrow winding street track with no run-offs,I think the drivers like the challenge

As you know, my views are that F1 is a farce.  A decision needs to be made in F1, is it a racing series, or is it about what man+machine can achieve. As this halfway house situation is dull.

Monaco - overtaking only for the brave. But I quite 'like' (in comparison to others) because it is a test of driver skill/consistency, as its so easy to be out of the 'race'

No doubt we'll see safety car  >:(, thats a gay thing brought about in the last few years. Either the race can continue under double yellows (perhaps with a set speed limit in that section, breaking of which is instant black flag), or if serius, race red flagged.

Which comes back to what I've been saying about F1 since for ever. The coverage simply does not convey the speed to the viewer. I've never been a camera man, but I imagine there is some skill involved in panning through a corner and keeping a car in focus, but even that doesnt  convey the speed. Much less the easy cop out head on shots we are seeing. Camera positions may well be limited for space here of course.
Best shots for me is the through the tunnel, where the two cameras just flick from right to left. Peeyooowwwww. Swimming pool is impressive too sitting here. The rest is just waiting... :-\

Thing is if anyone wanted to argue F1 purely exists to prove itself as an Elitest And excessive past time, this is amunition in spades.

So you clearly like the safety car then? ;D

Its odd they re surfaced that area coming out of the tunnel braking for the left hander, to take out the bumps, but yet they still keep loosing it on that section, on the bumps.

Go to Monaco and watch it mate - then you'll experience the F1 experience ;)  I've driven the Monaco GP course and watched a couple of F1 gps there - its an experience you won't forget!!  Its a true drivers course.  Don't knock it until you've tried it mate  ::)

Pedro de la Rosa. HRT. - "I don't particularly like Monaco.... Too dangerous for modern f1. Great place, great atmosphere, but it's not a REAL race that I look forward to"

Prosecution rests. :)

Pedro ain't exactly a top guy - check out other drivers' comments - most look forward to driving Monaco as its a different test of skills and concentration compared to most other circuits.

Guess you've not been there then  ???

So PdlR is gay poof then.  And a nobody.

No event on the calendar is a REAL race. REAL races were banned by the FIA years ago.

I think Monaco holds something special. Not sure what. Yes, it is the playboy captal for the rich, and participation in F1 is only for the rich.

Maybe its because its one of the only remaining original circuits. Maybe its because its one of the few places where the spectators can be near enough to the action not to need binoculars.

I don't agree, but if I was to agree this race would be top of the list.

In retrospect though, having seen some more of the footage from qulifying, and placing my arm chair squarely in front of the tv in the middle of the room, the impression of speed did start to come across more. :)
