window problems
« on: 30 May 2012, 22:34:02 »

Seems the passenger side window started making problems.
Push it to go down, and it goes till about last quarter of the way then suddenly it makes a strange ugly sound(squeak) and stops.
If you press it to go up it closes normally.
What I am to look for (detached window runner or something)?

I'm sure someone will spit fire at the mention of WD40 soon  ;D

Don't think it will help cause it doesnt slow down and stops it simply squeaks loudly and halts like it hits something.
Still didn't have the time to strip the door

Me and Twiglet took my door apart... couldn't find any foreign bodies trapped. Mine stops suddenly too but on the travel up! A good spray of WD40 every month or so keeps it working. Quick wipe where it's touched the glass and bang the job's a good 'un ;)

Sod WD40, its a poor lube and also not good for this application.

If lubeing the runners then look for a PTFE based lube spray, it lasts better, does not contaminate the glass with oil and is made for this sort of job.

As for the graunching, you need to pop the door card off and observe what is happening, the Omega window mechanisms are very reliable but that does not mean it can't fail.
