They are pretty reliable, certainly more reliable than an omega.

That Robsy has a lot to answer or you know. :)

Not that thirsty really either in petrol guise according to the spec's on Autotrader - I'd personally plump for the petrol version and look at LPG'ing it given the significant savings over the diesel-engined variants...

The 3.2 petrol is a thirsty car in the Golf, let alone the Phaeton, the 3.0 TDI I think is easily the pick of the bunch  :y.

Certainly have a good looking interior and well equipped. However they are still a VW and look very similar to the Passat :(

Every single car I have owned has let me down once. And only once. By let down, I mean needing towing services, or has broken down at the roadside. The exception is TB1 where I managed to nurse it home.  The one and only exception to this is TBE, but there is time yet ;D

So based on that, I don't think that teh Omega is unreliable.  I would say it possibly needs more looking after though.

in all these years omega never let me down (except some scary engine temperatures climbing the mountains long years ago which was thermostat).. but I know how much is gone for it :-X

for the shopping trolley , nothing spent except cosmetic changes and its faultless even having more mileage than omega..

but must admit first owner for omega was a skimpy rich businessman >:( >:(

Tunnie, definitely tell ya folks to go for it.

Seriously who would care about street credit in an executive car. Especially when you look at all the kit it's got.... it is effectively a Bentley Continental GT. I'd get one in a heart beat... and for that money  :o :o :o :o

This car represents the power of understatement. People often say they would like/prefer an A8 - but I simply would not buy one at the prices they want for nearly new. What's more you end up not getting an A8 because of the price and when a bargain alternative comes along you have to compromise in the interests of getting value for money. I paid not much more new for the Phaeton than I would for a new Insignia except in my case I was able to avoid £20k of depreciation - because the real "private" market for a new Phaeton was say £34k and not £46k and I did better because of fortuitous circumstances.

I have consistently maintained that this is overall a great replacement for Omega but it is expensive to run on fuel and tax but so would the Omega if it were still produced - they were £32k back in 2001/2/3 with all the bits and on a run do better than the 3.2 V6 certainly (37 mpg) for a 2.4 tonne car.

Used - some of them have massive miles in a short period of time so you have to be careful particularly the pre 2005 models because of parts changes and availability.

Well summed up PSC. What sort of return are you getting from the pumps? is it diesel or petrol?  :) i think theyre gorgeous inside. a real nice place to be. i drove my mates passat the other day (on a 10 plate) and that looked similar but the phaeton looks great imo

I only use if for motorway work and it does 37 mpg. The tank is 90 litres so it costs a packet to fill it.

It is a V6 3 litre diesel - 2 years servicing by dealer is about £450 to £500 if you pay in advance and includes MOT and other stuff. My next issue is whether to buy the extended warranty in December for £800 a year.

Thats very impressive for a big car, given these prices, its a big contender now for a future replacement.
