Expensive to replace, even second hand, provided you can get the correct match. Best bet is to get your own unit refurbed. Can't remember the recommended company's name off the top of my head though ...  :-\
It'll come back to me, but I'm sure you'll have had a load of responses before my brain gets into gear  :-[

Need to check your codes on your unit, below pas bottle will be codes on it, might need to wipe the top off, you might not need to code if you buy the right one....

Get yours refurbed, around £120. Can still use car without ECU just wrap the pump in polythene bag

Given your symptoms that has little chance of working ... :(

This is a known fault inside the ECU, the only remedy is repair or replace.

Repair by BBA-REMAN cost around £130 about 4 years ago, do a google for them then phone for latest price, service is fast and has (had) a 2 year warranty. No Tech2 or reprograming needed as the ECU is "yours"

Replacement needs either the same engine/transmision AND model year or it needs a tech2 session to programme to your car. New from Vx is basically silly money, a 2nd hand one may well be about to suffer the same internal failure  .... you take the chance I guess.

Work is fiddly not hard, access is the problem, empty the swearbox before you start !!!

Driving without the ECU gives certain problems ... no ABS, No Speedo, No power steering, and probably no insurance if they found out .... I only did 4 miles in mine without the ECU and said enough ...  the ECU was back within 5 days anyway.
