Here as on ebay one needs to build up a level of trust in a seller when purchasing goods.  Ebay gives a guide with feedback - a look thro a sellers feedback can enhance that initial guide.  On OOF there is no feedback - but it is possible to "get a feel" for a sellers reliability by reading through prior posts and other members comments.
Whilst i have sympathy for anyone who has been ripped off, lets not go over the top because of the actions of one idiot individual, and risk spoiling it for others.

Personally i have had good experiences with buying items off OOF (& off ebay, where i also sell - 100% feedback) and would want that to continue on OOF.  For example see thread http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1205449884.

Sorry to go on but dont let the actions of one individual cock it up for other sellers.  We need good sellers on OOF!

On other forums I have visited -- where there is a trading element of any sort -- there has been a feedback thread where good or bad experience is shared ( much like eBay feedback). Each regular seller has their own feedback thread for potential buyers to read through and make their own minds up.

If we don't want dirty laundry aired in public -- just PM a mod when things go pear shaped -- I am sure they will act to quietly remove a member if a pattern starts forming

We got to the point of actually implementing something on the live platform, only to back out of it due to technical issues. :(

That particular idea for that particular implementation is scrapped, as not technically possible without massive rewriting of the forum software.

Admin approved Preferred Sellers makes some people immediately more important than others - not a direction we want to go I'm afraid.

A section for feedback for sellers is too open to abuse to be useful.

Lets not forget the basics, when you buy anything from anyware and pay for postage. You send the postage payment to whoever, they send the item to you via the post office or courier whom they pay on your behalf.

The contract is made by the sender (not the buyer) and is not transferrable under any circumstabces. No matter what they claim.
you will see a lot on ebay denying any resposability for loss, even if you have the proof of posting from the sender the post office or whoever used, will not deal with you on the very basis of contract. which does not exist with you.

The solution is quite easy issue a small claims. Being an Omega owner does not endough you or anyone with the attributes of honesty or anything other than that you are an omega owner. In the main the majority are more than honest in thier dealings, but as in in all other matters there are a few who will seek to gain an advantage by any means available.

Normally it is quite sufficient to issue a copy of proceedings  in the small claims court. As always there are times when you will need to follow through. You can download the forms required which should be part of anyones arsnel who buys via the web. I use it and have never lost a case. even to the use of baliffs.

The moral being dont be afraid of spending what is at the end of the day THIER MONEY it's a great feeling to see them being shafted.

And yes there are a few on this forum, so just learn how to deal with them

AFAIK there are four to avoid. I've not received something I paid for from a member despite a number of false promises that it's packed ready to ship etc etc.

If I buy anything now, i'll go and pick the item up (unless it's very low value) because I can't afford to give my money away to fraudsters.

I would pay by cheque, at least you've got an address to go to, to persuade the seller they are in the wrong ::)

I`ve bought two items from well established O.O.F members; the first was lost by Royal Mail; and I am positive the seller was in no way at fault.
The second 'deal' was a perfect transaction with hyper-fast delivery.  :y

However, just as a sensible precaution; I would not buy from a joined to sell 'Newbie' or from someone who hasn`t become active within our community.

Perhaps the <50 post restriction (which applies to selling whole-cars) might be a fair and applicable measure to also apply when selling parts?
Yes, it may alienate some, but it might protect both the 'innocent buyer' and the reputation of the forum.  :y

i would buy something from a member rather than something from an ebay seller.

However i do take the precaution that Debs has talked about, my own rule is they have to be an established member of the forum.

I have bought things in the past from people on here and on the whole had a good experience.

Don't let the minority spoil it for everyone else
