Omega future replacement ........
« on: 13 June 2012, 22:13:18 »

Good Omega's are getting harder and harder to find and someday will need to be replaced... But with what ?
I was thinking along the lines of Audi S8 possibly as an MV6/Elite replacement ?

This crossed my mind lately and i've only had my Omega  3months!

Problem is, if you want a big, comfy rear drive saloon you're forced to go German now, I think a 5 series if you discount the Omega.

Hope i've a few miles left in the big vx yet though..

same options passed from my mind also.. but most of them very high mileage, not well looked after and the cost for them to bring to tip top
requires an amount incomparable to miggies .. and after many years still they are not cheap.. final decision, I will keep mine.. :-\

I've now got two Omega's, but I replaced my 2003 Elite with a 2006 Jaguar XJ8, 4.2 V8 with RWD and all the toys you'd want. You can get the 2003+ XJ (X350) from as little as £2,000 now. Comes with 3.0 V6, 3.5 V8 and 4.2 V8 and 4.2 V8 Supecharged and a 2.7 TDVI diesel. Of course to a few I know, the biggest downside is of course no estate variant.
They have the Sovereign, akin to the Elite and XJR or Sport Premium similiar to MV6  :y

On my mind as well but will get as much as I can out of my 2 migs and don't mind spending a bit to achieve it. If it takes a modest amount to keep it going and roadworthy then no brainer  :-* . Better than spending 3,4 or 5K on a replacement that I wont like as much   :y

Current thought, as I use my estate everyday for my work as well as pleasure, Is a Merc E Class estate, seems to be comparable is size although dont know much else about them  :-\

Otherwise it's a Volvo V70 and from what i've seen I don't particularly like them  :(

I'm thinking about an E60 BMW 5 Series. I love the saloon bodystyle and stance but the dashboard is vile.

yep.. Volvos are good cars but they dont attract me also.. something wrong with them.. although comfy , robust and reliable cars, they are not attractive.. too much mechanic feeling when you are inside.. :-\

I had an '04' E220 CDI estate a few years ago. It was a 2.2 diesel with a 6 speed manual gearbox. It was nice to drive. It was the 'Classic' so had cloth interior, single CD etc, but was still a good car. The Elegance normally has a few more toys, and the Avantgarde has Xenon's, and is probably the sportier looking one. Suspension issues seem common, no way to visually check oil level, and most things are optional extra's when new are the downsides. The E240 is the unloved model, and is the cheapest of the bunch. It's a 2.6 V6 with 177bhp, so almost identical to the Omega 2.6 bhp output. One nice little touch is the rear load cover electrically rises when you open the boot to load the estate.

Heres an idea ... If Vauxhall where to put the 2.8 Turbo V6 from the Insignia in the VXR8 and possibly even a smaller engine the Aussie Commodore would be an ideal Vauxhall to Vauxhall replacement but I can't see them doing this  :'(, and the current only V8 version is doesn't quite balance the power / reasobable economy ratio just power :(

i know i deffo wont touch a jag, the autos suffer premature box faling.then the v6 seems to be having engine issues, just look on fleabay its littered with them as spares or repair, wonder if someone fancies a chalange of fitting a mig engine and box in one lol
