I will not go into any detail, but in connection to my work I have had cause to view some facebook comments tonight, (an unprotected account) they alone provide the majority of the evidence that will be needed in a forthcoming Court case..... :-X

I often speak to people about posting, and that something could come back and haunt you in the future, and these days that may mean years in the future...... :)

For anyone creating a dossier on me, I was only joking and bigging myself up when I said that I once broke the speed limit.  ::)  ;)  I'll have it known that I always drive within the letter of the law.  :y  There you go, that's just neutralized there evidence against me.  ;D ;D

In all seriousness I know what you mean Vamps. There have been several cases recently where Facebook extracts have been used to nab people.

Agreed and that is why we should all be careful on what we post on an open forums, facebook etc.

When something is gossip, and you repeat it on a forum, it is always good to add 'allegedly' as it still gossip rather than slander.

I'm sure at times some public arguments, on forums could be construed as bullying. Then it gets worse of course with sexism, racism and many other ...isms.

If you are planning a trip to the US, any anti-US rant can mean no visa waiver or visa.

IMHO, I don't think discussing any kind of law breaking including speeding is a smart thing to do on any forum.

:o Vamps, what work would be the type that makes anyone use that waffleboard Facebook? I too have looked at it and cannot understand why anyone would want to tell the whole world and its dog about every single little aspect of their lives. Those who post day in day out must have the saddest lives of all......that is if they have any time left to actually enter back into real life  ;D ;D ;D ;D
Yep, considering just how easy it is to manipulate any video footage and wording the comments to bragg about a bit of fiction I fail to see how the so called evidence used in these cases stands up. Very sad though that this was the only method of evidence used and the case was not based on the evidence being that of actually being caught by those whose job it is to maintain road discipline.
Easy job and an easy way to up their figures. That is a bit more of my respect for them gone out the window.  ;)

That is so pleasing to know. My thoughts of th US are not good and I have said so many times. I will also continue to make comments about americans, especially when I have first hand experience of some of them.

They don't have to let me in, because I don't want to vist there "country"

I had some tenants try and do a runner on me last year.  >:(  When I tracked them down and they made it obvious that they had no intention of paying me the money they owed, I started court proceedings....  ::)  In the run up to the court hearing I was checking their facebook accounts and low and behold up popped a load of photos of an expensive holiday they had just had!!!  ::) ::)  Bingo!!!  :y :y :y

The number of times I carry printouts of facebook accounts to the Jury panel during a trial is amazing ... if I had a pound or every occasion.................

People post the stupidest things, and don't realise that if it can be viewed it can be printed, and there are many ways of accessing accounts in order to view .....  :(

Idiots they are, and idiots they will remain.

I know someone who fell into the same trap. :-X

All because they think the world is interested in every breath they take during their pointless existence. ;D

I'll have it known that I always drive within the letter of the law:y

Yep, me too. The numbers of the law, on the other hand.... ::)

Well, if it's presented in a court of law are you going to deny it's true?

Was that picture of you white water rafting / hang gliding / abseiling while on disability benefit photoshopped, then? Why would you have done that? Has the prosecution found someone who can back it up with a personal testimony? Would take a brass neck to try to refute it, IMHO.

I recall doing a disciplinary investigation where someone claimed they were being bullied and had resigned because of it, the accused pulled out a sheaf of facebook posts showing the accuser to have already got another job and was trying to get a pay off. The accusers face was a picture when confronted about it ::)

A very, very senior member of the organisation I work for used to write a blog.  Her last entry included some remarks about the top man that could be read as disparaging (although I, personally, don't think they were).  The blog was picked up by a well respected "trade" publication and she hasn't been seen since.  She's on "special leave" apparently.

That's interesting.... :y This is the first time I have looked into any case on facebook, never really thought about it till I was informed of some of the content, and is not me taking it to Court but is linked to me through family relationships, work not personal........ :-X

Bionic............Please do not think I do my job viewing facebook, I was informed of some content and went to check it out :) in my own time at home..... :y  As Entwood stated people post some stupid things, effectively, in some cases, hanging themselves, by publishing going on's............... :-X :-X

Entwood, just curious as I am not on facebook etc. But what is the legal stand on accesing these peoples accounts ? I am not trying to be awkward or funny or anything, but it just seems to me that if there accounts have been hacke or tampered or whatever I don't know. Then is that not an infringement in itself.

It would seem to me in this age of "rights" that these people are not claiming that their rights have been infringed.

Like I said just interested.

User defined settings. A user can set it so everybody can read what they have posted, or just their "friends". So the info is just there, no hacking involved.
