Damn, pressed post button by accident! Still at least I can see I am doing it reasonably right.
Next to that farm house is a spring that runs all year round in the stone trough in foreground. This despite the land above only being maybe 100 feet higher. I spend a bit of time studying wells. Someone drilled one successfully on a coll! The land behind was wheat until last year when it was planted with asparagus. The other main crop here is olives.

Across the road from the spring (and benefitting from it) is this large traditional cortijo. Collection of farm buildings. Labour and manpower was everything until as little as twenty years ago. Families were large (our neighbour was one of 12 - all male children and all survive at 60 years old plus, we suspect many children died) and more buildings were added as children got married and had their families and cultivated more land. In Franco's day, Andalucia was a very poor region and people left the land in droves but were turned away from the towns and given land. Go grow a few olives, a few pigs and chickens and some wheat.

Glass of ice cold beer and a bowl of olives anyone? (except that AndyB of course)

A bit further on there is a limestone ridge with good views. The copper age was a big thing here and these Dolmens ( we have located 9 but wouldn't be surprised if there are more) were created 4000 years ago. Burial sites? Somewhere to shelter from animals intent on eating you? In those days wolves were common all over Spain. Another neighbour showed me a perfect green stone tool he found. When I showed an interest he donated me his other small collection of normal coloured stone tools - all broken of course! Metal detecting isn't allowed in Spain. There must be tons of stuff left from Roman times as in the UK.

Ruin for sale. Close up you can see how little is required to get it habitable (as estate agents here say). This place used to be the village bakery for the local spread out community.

Sorry about the small size of the pictures cem. It was a major technological achievemnt taking them and posting them.
