and if you think I paid that for it you are dreaming ......  :)

We've been caravanning many, many years and have worked up to this level ...  I traded in a 2 year old Abbey for this one , and for the Abbey I traded in a 2 year old Challenger ...

My first 'van 30 years ago cost £1000  and was 15 years old then !!!   :)

This was last Villa I used (Portugal), spotless, 2 swimming pools, cost less than 4 figures for 2 people, with hire car & flights.

Fine .. if you want to go to portugal for a week ...

we will be out in our tin tent some 26 weekends, 3 bank holidays, 2 weeks in France and 10 days in Somerset, on the present plans ... and we've had 2 weekends canceled due to the sites we were going to being flooded ..... so we should do around 88 nights in the van ..it would have been over 90 .. this year .... 90 nights in a villa/hotel will cost a fair bit ......  :)

I don't really care, and I'm not trying to justify it .... you ride a motorbike, ski, snowboard ... that is your choice and what you spend your time/money on .... we like getting away from the telly, meeting/making friends, and seeing many parts of this beautiful country of ours .. so we have made the choice to spend our money that way .... we have a great time in very comfortable surroundings .... :)

EDIT

We also support the local communities where we go by buying locally and sampling many good pubs .... and if you've seen the way I drive ... I doubt I hold many people up .. it's one reason for having the 3.2 Omega .....  :)

Don't get me wrong I like camping, but with a tent. The English lands have some fantastic places, but, our weather is awful. We have had about 15 days of good weather so far, it's just not predictable. One minute it's fine, next it's pouring rain. Wales is excellent in the sun, as per my bike trip in march. But 95% time, it's cloudy rain & plain crap.

Which is where a caravan comes into its own... Nothing to put up (unless you choose to) or take down in the rain :y

Also, not all caravans hold up traffic. I've been in the car with you and can safely say that I would keep you honest (if you drove normally) even with a caravan on the back :-X ;)

Is that the reason for the dramatic price drop? Catterick Caravans are offering some very good deals on them..... :-\ :-\
We are a 'static' family ourselves, but we mix with the tourers...... :D :D :D
Indeed our closet friends are static tourers, we went from a caravan to static due to health needs..... :) :)

More to do with the present economic situation, I reckon.
Dealers are cutting their margins in an attempt to move stock/stimulate sales IMHO.

When we seriously looked at changing our 'van last August, we saved around 20% (nearly 3.5k) by driving 70-odd miles to the next-nearest main dealer - and we got a brand spanking new one for the first time in our lives.
The deal just couldn't be refused! ;)
