And you're right to be proud :y :y Well done :y :y
Guess being in the air, rather than ground is of some benefit i would have though? As its IED's which appear to cause biggest issues  :(
Unfortunately the Rock Apes (Regiment) aren't airmen though Tunnie ;)

Bob, as I'm sure Guffers will tell you, Helmand doesn't always mean bad news. I've got lots of serving friends who say there are worse postings ;)

That's correct. :y The Regiment's main task is to protect RAF interests such as their airfields. In Helmand they're not likely to adventure much further than the airbase's perimeter, so not likely to face danger on a daily basis like our unfortunate squaddies that have to patrol the streets. Still not a pleasant place to be though.

Ah sorry, I assumed he'd be in the air  :-[

He will from time to time but mostly in choppers transferring from one location to another. Interestingly, in their final phase of training (before graduation) took place in Wales a couple of weeks ago and they were on an exercise that involved being moved around the valleys in open doored Merlin choppers at very low altitude - he reckoned it was a better buzz than any rollercoaster in the world!!

Even though he's wearing the wrong colour (sorry just had to get that in) you have every reason to be proud, as does he.  I know how hard training at that standard is and the flying around in choppers at low altitude is awesome.

We can chat about the other stuff if you like in person at some point, cant do it on here but it isn't anything like what you see in the media.  He may well spend most of his time on Op bronze and Op Massive (he will tell you what they are  ;D)

Enjoy the parade :y

Well done indeed. I'm with you on the pride bit, our son passed out in 2008. Has done two tours in Afghan and did suffer the consequences of an IED - all ok now though.

He will be allowed to make x minutes of free phone calls a month - just be sure that he calls you just to say hello - even if the majority of the calls are to his GF.  :y

These evil IED's are a real worry for our forces out there. So sorry to hear your son was the victim of one but glad to hear he's ok now :y - not many of our guys are after coming into contact with them >:(

Since he's been at RAF Honnington most of the calls he makes are to his GF! ::) Still, manage to have a chat with him now and again and he's been getting home for the odd weekend.
