NCDC 2013 woes
« on: 28 June 2012, 21:12:31 »

It looks like I have next to useless ‘infotainment system’ which is now starting to bug me quite a bit.

The top slot spits the ‘proper music CD’s’ back out saying “insert with label side up” So am I correct in thinking this is due to a pooped laser which has been ruined by CDR’s? Obviously I can’t use the sat-nav with it in this state which is not good.

Then there’s the changer, always in a state of ‘no cartridge’ so I assume this is because of a warped or bent mechanism somewhere along the line.

Trouble is that I haven’t seen what is supposed to happen when the cartridge is inserted. It looks like the two little clips rotate around pushed by pins int the unit and allow the cartridge to open up but I can’t see what actually does the opening???  Is it worth me pulling the unit out and adjusting it with my BIG hammer to remedy a common fault that someone can point me at or do they usually never work again once like this?

I thought I’d get by as the car has a parrot hands free kit fitted but unfortunately it would appear to be too low a spec to support BT music streaming (can’t remember what that’s called)

Please don’t tell me I’m stuck with the crappy radio DJ’s for company!  :-[

Doesn't matter how good the BT streaming is, the aux in a not for music anyway.

Top lasers, I thought, still available.

Bottom unit, best to change out entire bottom unit, but keep your vertical board.

OK cheers.

So do you think it best to contact Dave DND for a quote? I assume the new laser needs setting up to some degree?

I'll keep an eye out for a bottom unit that works. It would be nice to know how the mechanism works though to either fiddle/fix/understand the issue. I can do small and fiddly, if it's broke anyway it cant get no worse.

Sorry, we no longer service the NCDxxxx range at all now as spares are obsolete and we have robbed so many secondhand bits that we have nothing serviceable left.

There are still some out there with a few parts, just not us I`m afraid.

Thanks maxv6 I might take you up on that.

Ok Dave thanks for the reply. Shame the sat nav won't read from the changer though don't you think?

When I've mustered up some enthusiasm I will have a poke at it.

No. Most aftermarket lasers will require some adjustment, or component changes on the board to compensate for the different tolerances from standard.

You will need some skills and knowledge for this - Not a simple DIY job

Ok thanks, although I understand you don't normally work with these units any more would you be prepared to fit and set up this laser I'd I provided the laser via the above link?

If so would you have any idea of a ball park figure so I can decide if this is a viable option?

Sorry,

There are probably still some others out there who may be able to help you though with this one, but we would only ever fit genuine parts as some of these pattern parts are more trouble than they are worth, and experience now tells us to stay away from them.

I've now got the changer working but have no major desire to mess about driving around with CD's. The top slot is still on strike so no sat nav for me.
