Hello everybody.

I drive a 2000 yr Omega Caravan, 3.0 V6 auto. I like the car and there's nothing wrong with it really, but it seems that my abs ecu quit its job overnight.
The story:
 I was driving my co-worker home one day, and i stopped at his house for a cigarette (which we've both quit by now, happened some months ago). When i started the car I realised my stereo does not work. When I got home I checked the fuses, all's ok. So i tryed to get the stereo out, but due to not having two of those [ shaped whatever you call them in English, I didn't get anywhere. The next day I start the car to find the stereo started to work. Just to see TC does not work. Speedo is fine, so is the rev counter (what's that in English?), and the speed sensitive power steering. Haven't tested the ABS yet. 19th (ABS) fuse is OK, but neither the ABS nor TC light come up on dash when I remove the fuse. Also the TC button seems to be stuck, can't really switch it. All that TC trouble started just after the stereo messed around (which is just fine now). Tryed the TC on some gravel (bit grassy), and it defenetly doesen't work (also no flashing TC in dash).

Could it be the ABS ECU?

Does the ABS work?

Is the TC light on on the dashboard?

It may be you've just damaged the wire behind the dash, near the stereo

I have not tested the ABS since there are no sutch grass patches around here that are allowed to drive on and I don't want to brake anything on tarmac.

The TC light on the dashboard is not on nor does it flash, so I assume the TC is off.

Does the damaged wire make it impossible to push switch? It moves a little in, but it does not switch.
If the problem is in the switch, or the wire behind it, do I have to take out the stereo to fix it, or can I just get the switch itself out?

Light off means TC is enabled
Light on means TC is disabled
Light flashing means TC is trying to regain traction.

So with light off, TC should be working.

Do the ABS and TC lights come on briefly when turning on ignition?

I know according to the light being off on dashboard TC should be operating. But doing a "kickdown" on gravel the TC light didn't flash and alooot of wheelspin, so somethings wrong.

Those lights do not come on when turning on ignition.

I suspect a fuse or power supply problem. Not got schematics to hand, but will look later.

All I can say is that the 19th fuse under steering wheel is the ABS fuse (10 amp), and that is ok.

Check FV1, 80A.

There are a total of 4 80 Amp fuses there, and they seem to be fine, although a little wierd color. The metal in the fuse is still intackt and has not snapped.

As I found found from experiece the TC light sometimes comes on when the TPS is faulty or not connected properly.

By TPS you mean Throttle Position Sensor?

The TC worked just fine before the stereo trouble, when it kicked in, usually in front of my house when it rained, I could feel how it limited engine power, and I didn't get no wheelspin. And the TC light flashed when TC operated.

The problem is that it just stopped working overnight. I suspected the ABS ECU, but have no other symptoms than a non-working TC. And I've read that in that case the ABS and TC lights should be constantly on, but they are not.

If anyone can help please.

It seems too much of a coincidence that you fought with the radio, just near the TC switch, and now the switch will not move or light up, and the TC is not working.

In a facelift car the switch just plugs in to a socket, you should be able to pull it out using a couple of small screwdrivers. If the switch is faulty (stuck on) then removing it should restore TC operation. (Pre facelift is a bit more difficult to remove, not sure what is fitted to 2000 MY)

Well the switch lights up when I turn on the car lights, but no TC or ABS (even when turning on ignition) lights on dash. Will try to get the switch out anyway, to see if that is the problem.

I got the switch out and it moves/switches ok .

So still looking for some help and opinions

One off topic question too. What switches are the ones on top and below the TC switch? I have "blinds" there, but when I removed them i saw the connections.

You mean blanks, not blinds.

The switch below TC is for opening the boot but only fitted to saloons, the switch above is for the alarm system, it disables the interior motion detectors.
